Life Skills Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site at Alpha campuses in Houston, TX: Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands (we provide relocation assistance)
  • $100,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one

The kindest thing you can do for a student who reaches 99% of their target is to not accept it as complete. If that principle feels harsh, this position won't suit you. If it energizes you because you understand that maintaining high standards is an expression of belief in a student's potential, read on.

Alpha operates differently than conventional schools. Students complete a full academic day in roughly two hours using adaptive software. There are no lectures or textbooks. Your role focuses on what technology cannot replicate: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. You will spend half your time facilitating hands-on workshops using structured guides and narrative techniques. The remaining half involves meeting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress in adaptive platforms via Coachbot analytics, and ensuring they reach 100% of their weekly objectives. Mastery is demonstrated through Test2Pass evaluations, not attendance or effort scores.

During your first year, you will manage a cohort and internalize Alpha's methodology: life skills workshops, motivational coaching, and mastery-based assessments. Once you consistently guide every student to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, you become eligible for the Lead Guide role, where you mentor other Guides while remaining engaged with students. The most effective people in this position don't just transform individual students; they influence campus-wide culture.

If you have years of experience coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and you've wanted to leave traditional instruction behind to concentrate on their actual development, this is that opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, focus, teamwork, and constructive feedback (hands-on, project-driven format)
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions where you analyze each student's adaptive learning app performance (via Coachbot analytics), establish goals, and ensure they reach 100% of weekly targets
  • Overseeing and evaluating Test2Pass assessments to verify genuine mastery of each life skill, beyond simple participation
  • Adjusting your coaching approach for a broad age spectrum, from Pre-K learners needing energetic, movement-based engagement to 8th graders requiring direct conversations and accountability
  • Cultivating authentic relationships with each student so they trust you to coach them through resistance, distraction, and moments of doubt

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lectures or traditional academic content (core subjects are taught through adaptive apps, not by you)
  • Creating lesson plans or original curriculum (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with energy and narrative skill)
  • Handling parent communications or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage these; you concentrate on students)
  • Assigning or grading homework or preparing students for standardized tests (these do not exist at Alpha)
  • Operating independently (you are part of a campus team that includes Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your cohort enjoys school, develops essential life skills, and achieves 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning technology.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • 3+ years working directly with Pre-K–8 students (teaching, coaching, counseling, or leading youth programs)
  • Proven experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your actions, and the result)
  • Daily use of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
  • Willingness to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in youth sports coaching, camp leadership, or after-school programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward specific objectives
  • History of personal high achievement (academic distinctions, competitive sports, or leadership positions requiring sustained excellence)
  • Innate storytelling skill: you can maintain the attention of a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
  • Experience re-engaging disengaged or resistant students and converting them into active learners
