Director of Parent Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla (San Diego), or Los Angeles (South Bay), CA
  • $200,000/yr · Full-time salary
  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, etc.

The families you work with don't require additional programs. They need a person they can trust without reservation.

This position anchors that trust. You will be the individual families turn to when something doesn't feel right, when they seek clarity, or when they want to discuss what truly matters. Not because it falls within your duties—but because you have earned their confidence. How you show up will define their experience at one of five California locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, downtown San Francisco, La Jolla, or South Bay (Los Angeles).

Alpha is creating a school unlike others. Students finish core academics in two hours daily via AI-powered platforms, then dedicate the remainder of their time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical execution. No lectures. No busywork. Top 1% national outcomes. Our families are informed, well-resourced, and frequently skeptical. They demand clarity and rigor, not rehearsed responses.

You will steward these conversations over the long term. Not only during enrollment, but across multiple years. You will discuss AI with fluency—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who lead companies, fund them, or insist on precision in all matters. If you cannot engage at that level, this role will prove demanding. If you can, it becomes one of the most intellectually rewarding positions in education.

This is not relationship management in the traditional sense. This is sustained trust-building with ultra-high-net-worth families who value discretion, sound judgment, and reliability. If that setting feels natural—and you use AI daily to accelerate your thinking, writing, and execution—you will understand the scope of this opportunity immediately.

What you will be doing

  • Own the complete relationship with every family at your campus, cultivating trust that deepens over time
  • Identify potential concerns early and address them with discretion, urgency, and thoughtful judgment
  • Be highly visible at critical touchpoints: morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, and intentionally designed parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive discussions about Alpha's AI-driven approach with analytically sophisticated, technology-oriented families
  • Create and iterate community experiences that foster belonging, advocacy, and momentum through referrals

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling admissions pipelines or enrollment goals—your work begins once families have joined
  • Operating primarily from a desk or relying solely on email—this role demands physical presence
  • Using scripted answers or avoiding difficult questions about AI or education philosophy
  • Depending on established processes—you will create structure in areas where it does not yet exist
  • Viewing families as accounts—this role values judgment over task execution

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain deep trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, ensuring sustained retention, advocacy, and confidence in Alpha's AI-powered educational approach.

Candidate requirements

  • Based in or able to commute daily to Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla, or Los Angeles
  • 5+ years of direct experience working with UHNW individuals or families in private schools, private equity, family offices, or elite client service settings
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, high-stakes relationships with discretion and sound judgment
  • Daily, active use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) with the capacity to explain AI capabilities, risks, and limitations clearly
  • Strong interpersonal presence and communication approach that earns trust with highly educated, high-expectation families
  • Knowledge of private or independent school environments, either through professional or personal experience
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, late afternoons, and select evening or weekend events

Nice to have

  • Established relationships within local private school or UHNW networks
  • Prior experience working with founders, investors, or technology executives
  • Proven record of creating communities or experiences that generate organic referrals
  • Background in early-stage or high-growth settings where ambiguity is common
  • Skill in translating complex technical ideas into clear, confident dialogue
