Director of Parent Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla (San Diego), or Los Angeles (South Bay), CA
  • $200,000/yr · Full-time salary
  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, etc.

The families you work with don't require additional services. They require someone whose judgment they trust completely.

This position occupies the center of that trust. You will be the person families turn to when intuition signals a concern, when they seek clarity, or when they want to discuss something meaningful. Not as a function of the role—but because you have cultivated it. Your influence will define how they understand their child's education across one of five California locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, downtown San Francisco, La Jolla, or South Bay (Los Angeles).

Alpha is constructing a fundamentally different school. Students finish core academics in two hours daily through AI-powered platforms, then dedicate remaining time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical application. No traditional lectures. No filler assignments. Top 1% outcomes nationally. Our families are sophisticated, well-counseled, and frequently skeptical. They demand rigorous thinking, not rehearsed responses.

You will steward that dialogue over the long term. Not only during enrollment, but throughout years. You will speak with authority about AI—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who launch companies, fund them, or demand exactness in all decisions. If you are unable to sustain that caliber of conversation, this role will prove burdensome. If you can, it transforms into one of the most intellectually stimulating positions in education.

This is not relationship management. This is enduring trust with ultra-high-net-worth families who require discretion, discernment, and reliability. If that setting is second nature—and you integrate AI daily to analyze, communicate, and execute more effectively—you will grasp the opportunity without hesitation.

What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of relationships with every family on campus, cultivating trust that grows over time
  • Identify concerns before they escalate and address them with discretion, urgency, and clear judgment
  • Be highly visible during pivotal moments: morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, and curated parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive discussions about Alpha's AI-driven model with highly analytical, tech-fluent families
  • Create and iterate on community experiences that foster belonging, advocacy, and organic referrals

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment metrics—your responsibility starts after families enroll
  • Operating from behind a desk or relying solely on email—this demands a visible, present approach
  • Using scripts or sidestepping difficult questions about AI or pedagogy
  • Depending on established processes—you will create frameworks where none currently exist
  • Viewing families as accounts—this role values discernment over task execution

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain deep, lasting trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, driving sustained retention, advocacy, and confidence in Alpha's AI-powered educational approach.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in or capable of daily commute to Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla, or Los Angeles
  • 5+ years of direct experience working with UHNW individuals or families in private schools, private equity, family offices, or elite service settings
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage complex, high-stakes relationships with discretion and sound judgment
  • Daily, hands-on user of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) capable of articulating AI capabilities, risks, and limitations clearly
  • Strong interpersonal presence and communication style that builds credibility with highly educated, demanding families
  • Knowledge of private or independent school environments, gained professionally or personally
  • Flexible availability for early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional evening or weekend events

Nice to have

  • Established connections within local private school or UHNW networks
  • Background working with founders, investors, or technology executives
  • Proven success in designing communities or experiences that generate organic referrals
  • Exposure to early-stage or high-growth settings characterized by ambiguity
  • Skill in distilling complex technical ideas into clear, confident dialogue
