Director of Family Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • Location: On-site in Palo Alto, Piedmont, or San Francisco, CA
  • Compensation: $200,000 annually · Full-time
  • Benefits: Health, dental, vision, 401k, PTO, and more

The families in your orbit do not require additional services. What they require is someone they trust implicitly.

This position exists at the heart of that relationship. You will be the individual families turn to when something does not feel right, when they seek guidance, or when they wish to communicate something meaningful. Not as a function of the title—but because the trust has been established. How you show up will define their experience of their child's education across one of three Bay Area locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, or downtown San Francisco.

Alpha represents a fundamentally different approach to schooling. Students finish their core academic requirements in two hours daily through AI-powered systems, then dedicate the remainder of their day to public speaking, critical thinking, and real-world application. No traditional lectures. No filler assignments. Results in the top 1% nationally. The families we serve are discerning, well-resourced, and often naturally skeptical. They demand clarity and rigor, not rehearsed talking points.

You will steward that dialogue over the long term. Not only during the enrollment phase, but throughout the years that follow. You will speak with authority about AI—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who lead companies, back ventures, or hold every conversation to an exacting standard. If you are unable to sustain that caliber of exchange, this role will prove demanding. If you can, it becomes one of the most intellectually stimulating positions in the education sector.

This is not client services. This is sustained trust-building with ultra-high-net-worth families who expect discretion, sound reasoning, and reliability. If that context resonates—and you leverage AI daily to accelerate how you think, communicate, and execute—the nature of this opportunity will be immediately clear.

What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of every family relationship on campus, cultivating trust that deepens with time
  • Identify potential issues early and address them with discretion, urgency, and solid reasoning
  • Be consistently visible at critical touchpoints: morning arrivals, afternoon departures, and intentionally designed parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive dialogue about Alpha's AI-driven approach with analytically minded, technology-literate families
  • Create and iterate on community programming that fosters connection, advocacy, and organic referral activity

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment metrics—your work begins once families are onboard
  • Operating primarily from behind a desk or through digital correspondence—this role demands physical presence
  • Reciting prepared responses or avoiding difficult questions about AI or educational philosophy
  • Depending on established playbooks—you will create structure in areas where none currently exists
  • Viewing families as portfolio entries—this role values discernment over task execution

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain profound trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, driving long-term retention, active advocacy, and enduring confidence in Alpha's AI-powered educational approach.

Candidate requirements

  • Residing in or capable of daily commute to Palo Alto, Piedmont, or San Francisco
  • 5+ years of direct experience working with UHNW individuals or families in settings such as private schools, private equity, family offices, or premium client service roles
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage intricate, high-stakes relationships with discretion and strong judgment
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) and the ability to articulate AI's strengths, weaknesses, and practical applications
  • Commanding presence and communication approach that builds trust with highly educated, demanding families
  • Professional or personal knowledge of private or independent school environments
  • Flexibility for early morning, late afternoon, and occasional evening or weekend commitments

Nice to have

  • Pre-existing connections within Bay Area private school or UHNW networks
  • Background working alongside founders, investors, or technology executives
  • Demonstrated success creating communities or experiences that generate word-of-mouth referrals
  • Comfort operating in early-stage or rapidly scaling organizations with significant ambiguity
  • Skill in distilling complex technical ideas into clear, authoritative dialogue
