Director of Family Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla (San Diego), or Los Angeles (South Bay), CA
  • $200,000/yr · Full-time salary
  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, etc.

The families you work with don't need more programs. They need someone they trust implicitly.

This position represents the foundation of that trust. You will be the individual families turn to when uncertainty arises, when they seek clarity, or when they want to discuss what truly matters. Not through obligation—but because you have earned it. Your influence will define their experience of their child's education across one of five California locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, downtown San Francisco, La Jolla, or South Bay (Los Angeles).

Alpha is constructing a fundamentally different school. Students finish core academics in two hours daily through AI-powered platforms, then dedicate remaining time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical execution. No lectures. No busywork. Top 1% outcomes nationally. Our families are discerning, well-counseled, and frequently skeptical. They demand rigorous thinking, not rehearsed responses.

You will steward that dialogue over the long term. Not only during enrollment, but across multiple years. You will speak confidently about AI—its mechanisms, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who launch companies, fund them, or demand precision in every choice. If you cannot sustain that caliber of conversation, this role will prove demanding. If you can, it becomes among the most intellectually stimulating positions in education.

This is not client management. This is enduring trust with ultra-high-net-worth families who demand discretion, judgment, and reliability. If that setting feels natural—and you leverage AI daily to think, compose, and execute more effectively—you will grasp the opportunity instantly.

What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of every family relationship on campus, cultivating trust that deepens over time
  • Identify concerns before they escalate and address them with discretion, urgency, and clear judgment
  • Remain highly visible during critical moments: morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, and thoughtfully designed parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive conversations about Alpha's AI-driven model with highly analytical, technology-oriented families
  • Create and continuously improve community experiences that foster belonging, advocacy, and sustained referral activity

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment metrics—your mandate begins after families enroll
  • Operating primarily from a desk or relying solely on email—this is a high-visibility role
  • Using scripted responses or avoiding difficult questions about AI or educational approach
  • Depending on established procedures—you will create infrastructure where none currently exists
  • Viewing families as accounts—this role values judgment over task execution

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain profound trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, securing long-term retention, advocacy, and sustained confidence in Alpha's AI-powered education model.

Candidate requirements

  • Based in or able to commute daily to Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla, or Los Angeles
  • 5+ years working directly with UHNW individuals or families in private schools, private equity, family offices, or elite client service environments
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage complex, high-stakes relationships with discretion and sound judgment
  • Daily, active user of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) with the capability to articulate AI capabilities, risks, and limitations clearly
  • Commanding presence and communication approach that establishes credibility with highly educated, high-expectation families
  • Knowledge of private or independent school environments, gained either professionally or personally
  • Flexibility for early mornings, late afternoons, and select evening or weekend events

Nice to have

  • Established connections within local private school or UHNW networks
  • Experience engaging with founders, investors, or tech executives
  • Demonstrated success building communities or experiences that generate organic referrals
  • Background in early-stage or high-growth settings where ambiguity is prevalent
  • Skill in converting complex technical concepts into clear, confident dialogue
