Director of Family Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla (San Diego), or Los Angeles (South Bay), CA
  • $200,000/yr · Full-time salary
  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, etc.

The families you work with don't require additional services. They require someone they can trust completely.

This position anchors that trust. You will be the individual families turn to when something seems wrong, when they seek guidance, or when they wish to discuss something important. Not as a function of your title—but because you have established credibility. Your role will define how they perceive their child's education at one of five California locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, downtown San Francisco, La Jolla, or South Bay (Los Angeles).

Alpha is creating a distinct model of schooling. Students finish core academics in two hours daily using AI-driven platforms, then dedicate the remainder of their day to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical application. No traditional lectures. No unnecessary assignments. Top 1% performance nationally. Our families are informed, well-connected, and frequently cautious. They demand clarity and substance, not rehearsed responses.

You will steward that dialogue continuously. Not only during enrollment, but throughout years of partnership. You will discuss AI with fluency—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who run companies, fund them, or demand rigor in every choice. If you lack that conversational depth, this role will prove challenging. If you possess it, this becomes one of the most intellectually rewarding positions in education.

This is not client management. This is sustained trust-building with ultra-high-net-worth families who expect confidentiality, sound reasoning, and reliability. If that setting feels natural—and you use AI daily to accelerate thinking, writing, and execution—you will understand the opportunity at once.

What you will be doing

  • Take ownership of the complete relationship with every family at your campus, cultivating trust that deepens with time
  • Identify potential issues early and address them with confidentiality, efficiency, and solid judgment
  • Be highly visible during critical touchpoints: morning arrival, afternoon departure, and thoughtfully designed parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive discussions about Alpha's AI-based model with highly analytical, technology-oriented families
  • Create and iterate on community experiences that foster connection, endorsement, and referral activity

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment metrics—your work starts once families have enrolled
  • Operating primarily from a desk or relying solely on email—this is a role defined by in-person presence
  • Reading from scripts or avoiding difficult questions about AI or educational philosophy
  • Depending on established protocols—you will create frameworks where none currently exist
  • Viewing families as transactional accounts—this role values discernment, not checklists

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain profound trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, ensuring sustained retention, endorsement, and conviction in Alpha's AI-powered education model.

Candidate requirements

  • Based in or able to commute daily to Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla, or Los Angeles
  • 5+ years working directly with UHNW individuals or families in private schools, private equity, family offices, or elite client service environments
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage complex, high-stakes relationships with confidentiality and sound judgment
  • Active, daily user of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) with the capacity to articulate AI capabilities, risks, and limitations clearly
  • Strong interpersonal presence and communication approach that builds credibility with highly educated, high-expectation families
  • Familiarity with private or independent school ecosystems, either professionally or personally
  • Availability for early mornings, late afternoons, and select evening or weekend events

Nice to have

  • Established connections within local private school or UHNW communities
  • Experience working with founders, investors, or tech executives
  • Demonstrated success in building communities or experiences that generate organic referrals
  • Experience in early-stage or high-growth environments where ambiguity is high
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, confident conversations
