Preschool Lead Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

The strongest preschool teachers don't require a script. They require a school that values their professional judgment.

If you're an educator who views play as meaningful work, prioritizes relationships over academics, and sees every moment as a chance for development, Alpha is where you belong.

This is a full-time, on-site position in Manhattan, where you'll lead a Pre-K classroom focused on emotional safety, curiosity, and measurable developmental progress in equal measure. You'll create rich, play-based learning environments that foster confidence, resilience, early literacy, numeracy, and authentic enthusiasm for learning. We seek educators who understand that excellent preschool is not childcare—it's the groundwork for all future success.

Alpha is transforming education by enabling students to master academics more efficiently, freeing time to cultivate the essential life skills that matter equally. This vision starts in Pre-K with exceptional teachers who understand how to transform play into intentional learning.

We anticipate hiring from throughout the New York metro region. If you're a talented educator interested in relocating closer to the city, relocation assistance will be provided.

If you've been searching for a school that recognizes early childhood education as a true profession—not just a stepping stone—submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Craft joyful, sensory-rich learning environments that deliberately develop early literacy, numeracy, self-regulation, and social competence.
  • Build a classroom atmosphere where every child feels emotionally secure, fully understood, and enthusiastic about attending school daily.
  • Monitor children's development continuously, record significant progress, and apply these observations to individualize instruction.
  • Modify activities based on each child's interests and developmental stage, ensuring every learner achieves measurable advancement.
  • Collaborate actively with families to communicate growth, acknowledge milestones, and extend each child's development outside the classroom.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing children without intentional developmental objectives guiding each activity.
  • Implementing scripted curricula, depending on worksheets, or prioritizing compliance over curiosity in your teaching.
  • Dedicating your time to behavior management instead of nurturing children's emotional regulation skills.
  • Placing children in front of academic software while you observe passively from a distance.

Key responsibilities

Establish a Pre-K classroom environment where every child cultivates an enduring love of learning while achieving outstanding progress across the developmental foundations that determine lifelong success.

Candidate requirements

  • Able to work full-time, on-site in Manhattan, New York City (relocation assistance is available)
  • An associate's degree or higher, or any U.S. state teaching license or certification
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children ages 3-5 in a structured, play-based classroom or group setting
  • Experience documenting developmental milestones using a structured framework or assessment tool (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, HighScope COR, etc.)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience in a Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Bank Street, or other inquiry-based early childhood program
  • Experience in an independent school or an academically ambitious preschool
  • Familiarity with child-development frameworks, observation tools, or portfolio-based assessment
  • Experience adapting play-based activities to individual interests, needs, and developmental goals
