Math Curriculum Designer   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Fast Math does not rely on distributing endless worksheets in the hope that repetition alone increases speed. Your role is to identify precisely what blocks students from building math fluency, then apply AI to reconstruct the learning pathway until precise calculation becomes second nature.

2 Hour Learning enables students to master foundational academics in a small fraction of the traditional school day. You will concentrate on our Fast Math program, analyzing student performance data, platform metrics, assessment outcomes, and student work samples to pinpoint what obstructs fluency and fact retention. The barrier could be inadequate sequencing, an unsuitable practice structure, a missing scaffold, insufficient feedback, or an intervention that does not address the root misconception.

This role is deeply practical. You will employ LLMs, AI-powered content creation, no-code automation, and agentic AI systems to enhance practice progressions, explanations, assessments, scaffolds, and interventions. Success is measured when students transition from labored calculation to rapid, accurate, automatic execution. If you are ready to use AI daily to produce tangible improvements in mathematical fluency, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Identify recurring deficits in math fluency, fact retention, speed, and accuracy by analyzing performance data, assessments, platform metrics, and student work samples.
  • Pinpoint obstacles to automaticity, including inadequate sequencing, absent scaffolds, ineffective practice patterns, feedback mechanisms, assessments, or interventions.
  • Apply LLMs, no-code automation, and agentic AI systems to redesign practice progressions, explanations, scaffolds, and interventions within Fast Math.
  • Refine questions, answer explanations, distractors, rubrics, and assessments to uncover misconceptions and measure mastery with precision.
  • Review AI-generated or AI-modified materials to ensure mathematical accuracy, grade appropriateness, clarity, rigor, and alignment with Alpha's learning science framework.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating repetitive drill sheets without confirming they enhance fluency or automaticity.
  • Drafting standalone lesson plans that appear refined but fail to shift mastery metrics.
  • Limiting yourself to analysis. You will locate the learning obstacle, reconstruct the material, and confirm whether the adjustment succeeded.
  • Overseeing a conventional curriculum program, performing administrative tasks, or managing a lengthy review cycle.
  • Developing education software products. Your emphasis is the mathematics learning experience, not application code.

Key responsibilities

Drive K-12 math fluency forward by continuously refining Fast Math curriculum, practice sequences, assessments, scaffolds, and interventions until students achieve accurate and automatic calculation.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Math, Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in math instruction, math curriculum design, assessment creation, educational content production, or learning design, with particular focus on developing math fluency, fact mastery, and student automaticity in four-function arithmetic.
  • Deep K-12 math content knowledge, including accuracy, rigor, sequencing, common misconceptions, fluency progression, and grade-level standards.
  • Working knowledge of learning science or instructional design principles, such as mastery learning, direct instruction, scaffolding, cognitive load management, retrieval practice, or deliberate practice.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools to enhance educational outcomes, including LLMs, AI-assisted content creation, no-code automation, coding/API-based solutions, or agentic AI platforms.
  • Capability to analyze student learning data to uncover fluency barriers and refine curriculum, assessments, practice, scaffolding, or interventions.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly for explaining mathematical concepts with clarity and precision.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience designing programs or interventions centered on arithmetic fluency, fact retention, or automaticity development.
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs for content generation, data interpretation, or adaptive learning applications.
  • Background in creating or refining math assessments that reveal misconceptions, not merely procedural correctness.
  • Track record of publishing education, mathematics, or AI perspectives in online communities, such as Twitter/X, LinkedIn, or a public knowledge repository.
