Mathematics Assessment Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Fast Math is not a program that distributes worksheets and expects repetition to accelerate students. Your role is to identify precisely what stands between students and math fluency, then leverage AI to redesign the learning path until calculation becomes both accurate and automatic.

2 Hour Learning enables students to master core academic content in far less time than a conventional school day. Your focus will be the Fast Math program, where you will draw on student performance metrics, platform analytics, assessment outcomes, and student work samples to uncover barriers to fluency and fact mastery. The obstacle may be sequencing errors, inappropriate practice structures, absent scaffolding, inadequate feedback, or interventions that do not address the root misconception.

This work is applied and iterative. You will employ LLMs, AI-driven content creation, no-code automation, and agentic AI systems to refine practice progressions, explanations, assessments, scaffolds, and remediation strategies. Success is defined by students transitioning from deliberate calculation to rapid, precise, automatic execution. If you are prepared to apply AI daily to drive measurable improvement in mathematical fluency, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Diagnose persistent gaps in math fluency, fact recall, processing speed, and accuracy by analyzing performance metrics, assessment data, platform logs, and student work artifacts.
  • Determine what inhibits automaticity—whether it is flawed sequencing, absent scaffolding, ineffective practice routines, inadequate feedback, or assessments and interventions that fail to resolve misconceptions.
  • Apply LLMs, no-code automation platforms, and agentic AI systems to restructure practice sequences, refine explanations, build scaffolds, and revise interventions within Fast Math.
  • Enhance question design, answer rationales, distractor quality, scoring rubrics, and assessments to reveal misconceptions and measure mastery with precision.
  • Verify all AI-generated or AI-modified materials for mathematical correctness, developmental appropriateness, clarity, rigor, and adherence to Alpha's learning science framework.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating drill-and-practice exercises in volume without evidence they advance fluency or automaticity.
  • Drafting standalone lesson plans that appear polished but fail to influence mastery outcomes.
  • Ending your work at the diagnostic stage. You will identify the learning barrier, reconstruct the instructional material, and verify the impact of the revision.
  • Overseeing a traditional curriculum operation, performing administrative tasks, or navigating prolonged approval cycles.
  • Developing educational software or applications. Your mandate is the mathematical learning experience, not platform engineering.

Key responsibilities

Drive K-12 math fluency gains by continuously refining Fast Math curriculum, practice activities, assessments, scaffolding, and interventions until students achieve accurate and automatic calculation.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Math, Engineering, Physics, or another quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of experience in math instruction, math curriculum development, assessment development, educational content creation, or learning design, especially focused on building math fluency and fact mastery and building students toward automaticity in four-function math.
  • Strong K-12 math subject expertise, including accuracy, rigor, sequencing, misconceptions, fluency development, and grade-level expectations.
  • Practical knowledge of learning science or instructional design, such as mastery learning, direct instruction, scaffolding, cognitive load, retrieval practice, or deliberate practice.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve educational work, such as LLMs, AI-assisted content generation, no-code workflows, coding/API-based tools, or agentic AI tools.
  • Ability to use student learning data to identify barriers to fluency and improve curriculum, assessments, practice, scaffolding, or interventions.
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially explaining mathematical concepts clearly and precisely.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience designing programs or interventions focused on arithmetic fluency, fact mastery, or automaticity.
  • Experience with LLM APIs for content generation, data analysis, or adaptive learning work.
  • Experience building or improving math assessments that surface misconceptions, not just procedural accuracy.
  • Experience sharing education, math, or AI insights in an online community, such as Twitter/X, LinkedIn, or a public knowledge base.
