VP of Campus Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You enter a facility and immediately recognize what's wrong — the unsecured ceiling panel no one documented, the HVAC unit that's been making noise for days, the grounds contractor who completed half the scope and submitted a full invoice. You don't wait for a parent to raise a concern. You resolve the issue before it becomes visible.

That discipline defines this position. 2 Hour Learning runs premium K–12 facilities where tuition-paying families expect an environment that is secure, reliable, and inspection-ready at all times — not only during scheduled events. You'll maintain that benchmark throughout the Northeast: Manhattan serving as your anchor location, with consistent site visits to schools in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Your execution determines whether a campus maintains premium quality or slowly deteriorates between leadership reviews.

Year one focuses heavily on establishing standards and vendor accountability — defining what "inspection-ready" means, implementing the audit schedule, removing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists on a consistent operational routine. As the region expands and your systems mature, the role evolves into sustained regional oversight: you become the operational authority the network relies on when launching new campuses, managing emergencies, or revising operating standards.

This is a boots-on-the-ground role. If you prefer to lead remotely from spreadsheets, this isn't the right fit. If you want clear ownership of whether 25+ facilities maintain premium standards daily — and the mandate to deliver that outcome — continue reading.

What you will be doing

  • Executing scheduled on-site inspections across Northeast facilities against written standards for cleanliness, HVAC performance, safety protocols, security measures, signage, landscaping, furniture condition, and visitor readiness — then ensuring findings translate into confirmed corrective action
  • Managing facilities incidents and urgent issues, coordinating vendor response, and closing tickets only after verification that problems are fully resolved (urgent issues <24 hours, standard requests <1 week)
  • Overseeing local vendor delivery against service-level agreements, terminating vendors with repeated failures, renegotiating contracts, and conducting direct accountability discussions on quality and pricing
  • Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure consistent execution of routines across all campuses, eliminating reliance on individual heroics
  • Overseeing significant campus improvement projects (HVAC replacements, interior updates, landscaping upgrades, AV and network infrastructure) delivered on time and within budget, minimizing impact on students
  • Documenting enterprise-wide standards and AI-powered procurement frameworks (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT and predictive maintenance tools, and centralized vendor sourcing) to ensure uniform campus launch and operations
  • Delivering concise weekly written updates on regional facility quality, vendor accountability, escalated issues, and capital expenditure tracking

What you will NOT be doing

  • Leading remotely from reports — this position demands frequent physical presence at the Manhattan location and 20–40% travel to regional campuses (CT, MA, PA)
  • Planning new campus builds from the ground up or managing construction project delivery — capital expansion is owned by a separate function
  • Defining company-wide procurement frameworks disconnected from field reality — your standards emerge from direct campus observation
  • Receiving clearly defined org charts and direct authority over everyone whose performance you depend on — you'll enforce accountability through precision, written documentation, and refusal to tolerate ambiguous vendor commitments
  • Treating "visitor-ready only during leadership visits" as acceptable — recurring problems are diagnosed at the root cause, not simply re-reported
  • Operating in constant reactive crisis mode — the inspection rhythm and predictive maintenance systems are designed to surface issues before they escalate to complaints

Key responsibilities

Maintain every Northeast region campus in a safe, premium, and tour-ready condition every single day.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in New York City or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years leading multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations
  • Documented success holding vendor-managed services accountable for quality, cost control, and SLA compliance across multiple sites
  • Hands-on experience resolving urgent facilities problems (safety, HVAC, security, cleanliness) with clear customer-experience outcomes
  • Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor follow-through, weekly regional status reporting
  • Proven use of contemporary operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT and predictive maintenance tools, AI-assisted procurement or planning)

Nice to have

  • Multi-site operations leadership in premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 education, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele
  • Experience building or rehabilitating a regional operations framework where the previous model depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
  • History of terminating underperforming vendors and developing a reliable local service provider network
  • Background delivering capital improvement projects (HVAC, AV and network infrastructure, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing settings
  • Experience operating in an AI-native environment where playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle repetitive tasks so personnel can focus on decision-making
