VP of Construction Management   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Opening one school is straightforward. Opening them consistently, on schedule, and with increasing efficiency is not.

Alpha is constructing a nationwide system of schools that condenses a complete day of instruction into two intensive hours powered by AI. This model demands that operational expansion be as disciplined and methodical as the educational product. This position is designed to ensure that outcome. You will control the entire development cycle for new school sites—from initial property evaluation to fully functional campus—while engineering the operational frameworks that make every future launch more efficient, streamlined, and reliable.

This is not a conventional construction oversight role. You are not tasked with simply tracking projects. Your mandate is to remove obstacles from the expansion pipeline. That requires making decisive calls on site suitability, engaging directly with permitting and construction challenges, managing vendor relationships, and driving schedules with relentless focus. Simultaneously, you will decompose these processes into structured, AI-enhanced systems that minimize manual intervention and sharpen forecasting precision over time.

If you have directed real-world construction projects and are dissatisfied with prolonged timelines, disjointed accountability, and recurring errors, this is your opportunity to correct those issues—at scale.

What you will be doing

  • Execute critical site evaluation decisions by confirming zoning compliance, permitting pathways, cost parameters, and timeline viability through structured and AI-supported analysis
  • Oversee multiple concurrent school construction projects, directing construction managers, clearing obstacles, and delivering on-time, on-budget campus openings
  • Prepare comprehensive, actionable capital project proposals that bring stakeholders into alignment on scope, budget, and execution approach
  • Direct vendor sourcing, RFP processes, and contract negotiations with an emphasis on velocity, quality standards, and cost discipline
  • Deconstruct expansion processes into discrete operational components and create AI-powered workflows that accelerate delivery and enhance predictability

What you will NOT be doing

  • Functioning as a passive coordinator who waits for status reports from contractors or external partners
  • Focusing narrowly on a single phase (such as site selection or construction alone) without accountability for end-to-end results
  • Defaulting to manual, one-off procedures that must be rebuilt for each new site
  • Escalating issues without directly engaging to resolve permitting, design, or construction roadblocks
  • Allowing extended stakeholder alignment cycles without pushing toward a definitive decision

Key responsibilities

Lead the complete expansion lifecycle for new school locations by delivering fully operational campuses on reliable schedules while systematically reducing time, cost, and risk through AI-enabled operational systems.

Candidate requirements

  • Proven track record directing at least one real estate development or construction initiative from site selection through operational launch with full end-to-end ownership
  • Experience overseeing multiple simultaneous construction or capital projects with direct accountability for schedules, coordination, and problem resolution
  • Strong working knowledge of zoning regulations, permitting processes, construction execution, and vendor management, with the ability to engage directly with general contractors, architects, and regulatory authorities
  • Demonstrated capability to evaluate tradeoffs involving cost, timeline, and feasibility with clear, quantifiable results
  • Experience refining or designing complex operational processes (e.g., permitting workflows, design coordination, construction delivery)
  • Proven ability to decompose complex operational workflows into structured, repeatable frameworks and refine them iteratively
  • Track record of leveraging tools (AI or other technologies) to eliminate manual tasks, expedite decision-making, or boost execution velocity
  • Strong ownership orientation with the capacity to perform effectively in ambiguous environments and deliver tangible results
  • Willingness and availability to travel up to 60% to active construction sites nationwide and be present on-site during pivotal development and launch phases
  • Currently based in the US and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship
