Director of Business Development   $400,000 USD/year

Description

You do not wait for a proven category. You construct one. This role is designed for an enterprise sales architect who can enter an undefined market, educate senior Total Rewards and HR executives, and transform a novel concept into confirmed employer commitments. If you depend on qualified inbound leads, established budget allocations, or refined sales frameworks, this opportunity will not align.

We are building a workplace-giving channel designed to fund scholarships in advance of a January 2027 launch. The structure is distinctive: employers are not required to locate budget. The offering is built on a federal tax credit, so the conversation is not about competing for HR technology spend. It is about guiding large organizations through a zero-cost pathway to support education via payroll giving.

Your time will center on enterprise prospecting, discovery conversations, multi-stakeholder negotiation, and deal closure. You will engage HR, Benefits, Total Rewards, CSR, Legal, and Finance leadership. You will present tax-credit mechanics with precision, address concerns related to state eligibility and ERISA, and convert market feedback into a more effective go-to-market approach. Eventually, your efforts will establish the blueprint for a repeatable enterprise channel.

This is a remote, US-based position with travel requirements. If you have successfully closed complex enterprise transactions, thrive on generating demand from nothing, and want your sales contribution linked to scholarship funding at scale, we would like to connect with you.

What you will be doing

  • Develop outbound enterprise pipeline targeting HR, Benefits, Total Rewards, CSR, Legal, and Finance executives at large organizations
  • Conduct discovery calls that reveal buyer motivations, decision structures, concerns, and readiness for launch
  • Advance a federal tax-credit-supported workplace-giving solution through intricate, multi-stakeholder enterprise sales cycles
  • Address inquiries regarding tax credits, state eligibility, ERISA considerations, legal approval, finance scrutiny, and employer launch authorization
  • Document market insights from buyer interactions to sharpen the ideal customer profile, positioning, and go-to-market strategy

What you will NOT be doing

  • Relying on inbound leads or an established demand generation function to supply your pipeline
  • Promoting a conventional HR technology product that competes for allocated employer budgets
  • Overseeing employee enrollment, payroll integration, or post-launch account management
  • Executing brand awareness initiatives or transferring leads to another team member for closure
  • Leading a sales organization rather than personally sourcing and closing enterprise deals

Key responsibilities

Build a converting pipeline of large employers committed to launching our payroll-giving program in time for the January 2027 launch.

Candidate requirements

  • 7+ years of enterprise B2B sales experience
  • Verified success selling to HR, Benefits, Total Rewards, CSR, or workplace-giving decision-makers
  • Documented complex enterprise quota achievement involving multi-stakeholder buying committees
  • Robust outbound prospecting capabilities and a history of generating pipeline from scratch
  • Capacity to communicate complex tax-credit-funded programs with accuracy to executive, finance, and legal stakeholders
  • Executive presence and consultative engagement with senior enterprise buyers
  • US work authorization
  • Capability to work remotely and travel as required

Nice to have

  • Background selling workplace giving, employee benefits, CSR, HR tech, or philanthropy solutions to large employers
  • Track record of building demand for a new category or evangelical offering without an established budget line
  • Knowledge of payroll giving, federal tax credits, state eligibility rules, or ERISA
  • Career progression from quota-carrying SDR or BDR to enterprise AE
