Director of Regulatory Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

If you've led the ground-up development of a school, hospital, or commercial site and found yourself thinking, "There has to be a faster, smarter way to do this," what follows will matter to you.

2 Hour Learning is deploying the fastest school model in the nation. But no school opens without proper authorization. Licenses, permits, and regulatory filings must be accurate and timely. Your role is to determine what's needed, submit everything in correct sequence, and ensure approvals arrive when required. You'll leverage AI-driven tools and automation systems, but you'll also engage directly—making calls, coordinating with contractors, and resolving exceptions that machines cannot.

This position suits someone energized by complexity under pressure. You'll operate within a fast-moving organization that provides full resources and backing, where velocity is standard and quality is mandatory. You'll apply AI to streamline bureaucratic processes, reduce permitting cycles, and deliver results—not just documents.

If you're ready to be the one who converts "pending approval" into "cleared to open," this role is yours to take.

What you will be doing

  • Aligning architects, contractors, and legal counsel to obtain all necessary construction and operational permits for educational facilities.
  • Managing municipal permitting and inspection workflows across multiple jurisdictions — shortening cycles and clearing obstacles.
  • Compiling and filing complete approval packages: permits, applications, regulatory submissions, and inspection records.
  • Tracking project advancement and compliance exposure in real time — ensuring visibility and eliminating surprises.
  • Spending approximately 75% of your time traveling to project sites to engage face-to-face with local authorities, inspectors, and service providers.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Waiting for escalations or depending on others to finalize submissions — you own the full outcome.
  • Operating primarily from an office — this is a field-based execution role.
  • Applying a one-size-fits-all approach across jurisdictions — you'll design custom solutions as needed.
  • Treating delays as unavoidable — speed paired with accuracy defines the work.
  • Using outdated tools or manual status reports — you're expected to automate processes and refine continuously.

Key responsibilities

Obtain complete legal and operational authorization to launch schools across jurisdictions with greater speed and thoroughness than conventional permitting allows.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in the U.S. with work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship.
  • Prepared to travel approximately 75% of the time to U.S. cities and states.
  • 5+ years directing permitting, construction, or facilities expansion initiatives that involve physical infrastructure and regulatory clearance.
  • 5+ years coordinating multiple contractors simultaneously across different jurisdictions.
  • Documented history of delivering projects early or on time while maintaining full regulatory compliance.
  • Experience communicating progress to both technical teams and executive leadership.
  • Clear ownership record — you served as the sole accountable contact for project completion and problem resolution.
  • Comfort with AI-driven workflows — you naturally use automation and experimentation to accelerate progress.
  • Writing that is precise, actionable, and relied upon by senior stakeholders.
  • Strong regulatory discernment — you understand when to escalate, seek clarity, or challenge requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience in construction management, education operations, or multi-location retail rollouts.
  • History developing or refining AI-based tools for permitting, compliance, or regulatory processes.
  • Direct interaction with fire marshals, building inspectors, and educational licensing agencies.
