Description

Certain spaces simply work. You instinctively want to understand what makes them succeed. If you're a designer who perceives both granular details and overarching systems, who thrives in physical environments rather than conceptual presentations, and who believes that beautiful, functional design can be systematically replicated, this role channels your expertise into meaningful action.

We are establishing a nationwide network of 2 Hour Learning campuses. These facilities enable students to complete a full academic day in two focused hours, then dedicate the remainder of their time to pursuing interests, developing essential skills, and engaging in physical activity. Your responsibility is to make these environments exceptional. Serving as the implementation leader for interior environments across the entire network, you will establish modular standards governing layout, FF&E, play areas, and wayfinding. You will guarantee precise execution at every location. You will visit campuses in person, identify shortcomings others overlook, develop upgrade proposals, and shepherd projects from budgeting through installation.

This position differs from conventional design roles in that it isn't isolated from execution. You will not simply deliver specifications and disengage. You will be present on-site, resolving installation challenges, coaching vendors, and gathering insights that refine subsequent deployments. If you are prepared to elevate your design expertise to national scale, this is the opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Establish modular, replicable design frameworks for layout, FF&E, finishes, and play environments that function across varied campus contexts
  • Perform on-site evaluations using standardized assessment tools to measure compliance with brand guidelines and identify high-value enhancements
  • Prepare detailed, visually documented, budgeted recommendations for facility improvements that align with educational philosophy, brand identity, and parent expectations
  • Manage vendor performance in the field, guaranteeing adherence to standards, financial parameters, and schedules through direct quality assurance
  • Complete the feedback cycle after installation by recording outcomes, lessons learned, and updating operational guides to reflect findings

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating custom, boutique environments that lack scalability or replication potential.
  • Submitting specifications and disengaging from the process. You maintain ownership from assessment through completion.
  • Postponing action until conditions are ideal. This position values proactive thinking, rapid refinement, and decision-making amid uncertainty.
  • Generating unrestricted creative concepts without constraints. The work is firmly anchored in brand consistency and operational feasibility.
  • Operating remotely from your desk. You will spend 50-75% of your time in the field.

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every campus provides a premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically appropriate physical environment by developing and implementing modular design frameworks that maintain quality at scale.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience designing and executing multi-location environments in education, retail, hospitality, or co-working sectors
  • Portfolio demonstrating completed projects that integrate aesthetic excellence with operational feasibility
  • Proven track record developing scalable, standards-driven design frameworks, not solely custom installations
  • Hands-on management of vendor implementation, including quality control and schedule adherence
  • Excellent documentation capabilities and communication skills with cross-functional teams, particularly non-design collaborators
  • Prepared and able to travel regularly, 50-75% of the time, throughout the United States
  • Located in the U.S. and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background designing premium environments with rigorous quality expectations, such as boutique hospitality, luxury retail, or high-end residential projects
  • Proficiency with spatial design software including AutoCAD, Revit, Figma, or comparable documentation platforms
  • Intuitive understanding of what elevates a space to feel premium, even within constrained budgets
