Description

Certain spaces just make sense. You instinctively want to understand why. If you're a designer who perceives both granular details and overarching systems, who thrives in physical environments rather than conceptual presentations, and who is convinced that beautiful, functional spaces can—and must—scale, this role channels your design instincts into action.

We are constructing a nationwide network of 2 Hour Learning campuses. These are spaces where students condense a complete school day into two hours of concentrated academics, then dedicate the remainder of their time to exploring interests, developing life skills, and engaging in physical activity. Your responsibility is to make these spaces memorable. As the execution owner of interior environments across the network, you will establish modular standards for layout, FF&E, play areas, and wayfinding. You will guarantee precise execution at every location. You will visit campuses, identify issues others overlook, define upgrades, and manage them from budgeting through installation.

This role differs from conventional design positions in that it is not isolated from execution. You will not deliver drawings and hope for success. You will be present, resolving installation issues, instructing vendors, and gathering feedback that refines the next deployment. If you are prepared to translate your design expertise into national-scale impact, this is the opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Develop modular, self-serve design systems for layout, FF&E, materials, and play areas that scale across varied campuses
  • Perform on-site evaluations using structured tools to measure performance against brand standards and identify high-impact enhancements
  • Produce scoped, visual, budgeted proposals for space improvements aligned with pedagogy, brand identity, and parent experience
  • Manage vendor execution on-site, ensuring adherence to standards, budgets, and schedules through real-time quality assurance
  • Complete the feedback loop post-installation by documenting outcomes, lessons learned, and revising playbooks accordingly

What you will NOT be doing

  • Designing bespoke, artisanal environments that cannot be scaled or replicated.
  • Handing off specifications and disengaging. You own the process from evaluation to installation.
  • Waiting for ideal conditions. This role values initiative, rapid iteration, and sound judgment amid ambiguity.
  • Creating open-ended design without constraints. The work is tightly brand-aligned and operationally grounded.
  • Operating remotely from a desk. You will be on-site 50-75% of the time.

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every campus delivers a premium, brand-aligned, and pedagogically supportive physical experience through the creation and execution of modular design systems that maintain quality at scale.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing multi-site environments in education, retail, hospitality, or co-working
  • Portfolio of completed work demonstrating a balance between aesthetic quality and operational practicality
  • Proven experience developing repeatable, standards-based design systems, not solely bespoke spaces
  • Direct management of vendor execution, including oversight of installation quality and timeline adherence
  • Strong documentation and cross-functional communication capabilities, particularly with non-design stakeholders
  • Willing and able to travel frequently, 50-75% of the time, across the U.S.
  • Based in the U.S. and authorized to work without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience designing high-end environments with rigorous standards, such as boutique hospitality, luxury retail, or private client spaces
  • Proficiency with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Figma, or similar platforms used for spatial documentation
  • An intuitive sense for what makes a space feel premium, even within budget constraints
