Description

Certain spaces work instinctively. You notice them, and you need to understand what makes them succeed. If you're a designer who perceives both micro-detail and macro-system, who feels more at home in physical environments than presentation decks, and who is convinced that beautiful, effective spaces can scale systematically, this role channels your expertise into tangible outcomes.

We are constructing a nationwide system of 2 Hour Learning campuses. These facilities enable students to condense an entire academic day into two hours of concentrated learning, then dedicate the remaining time to passion projects, practical life skills, and physical activity. Your responsibility is to make these spaces memorable. Serving as the delivery owner for interior environments across the network, you will establish modular frameworks for spatial planning, furniture, fixtures, equipment, play areas, and navigation. You will guarantee they are implemented with exactness at every location. You will visit campuses, identify shortcomings others overlook, define enhancements, and manage them from budgeting through installation.

This role differs from conventional design positions—it's not isolated from execution. You won't deliver drawings and move on. You'll be present, troubleshooting installations, coaching vendors, and gathering insights that refine subsequent rollouts. If you are prepared to translate your design expertise into measurable national influence, this is your opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Develop modular, scalable design frameworks for spatial layouts, furniture, fixtures, equipment, materials, and play environments that adapt across varied campus contexts
  • Execute structured on-site evaluations using standardized assessment tools to measure adherence to brand guidelines and identify high-leverage opportunities
  • Produce detailed, visually clear, budget-conscious proposals for spatial improvements that align with pedagogical goals, brand identity, and parent expectations
  • Supervise vendor implementation on location, maintaining fidelity to design standards, cost parameters, and schedules through active quality assurance
  • Complete the feedback cycle after installation by recording outcomes, lessons learned, and integrating findings into operational playbooks

What you will NOT be doing

  • Crafting unique, custom environments that cannot be systematically replicated or scaled.
  • Delivering specifications and disengaging. You own the entire process from evaluation through completion.
  • Waiting for complete information. This position values proactive decision-making, rapid testing, and sound judgment amid uncertainty.
  • Generating unrestricted creative work without constraints. Your output is tightly integrated with brand standards and operational realities.
  • Operating primarily remotely. Expect to be traveling and on-site 50-75% of your working time.

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that each campus provides a high-quality, brand-consistent, and pedagogically effective physical environment through the creation and implementation of scalable, modular design systems that maintain excellence across all sites.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience designing and executing multi-location environments in sectors such as education, retail, hospitality, or co-working spaces
  • Portfolio demonstrating completed, real-world projects that integrate visual quality with operational feasibility
  • Proven track record developing scalable, standards-driven design systems rather than exclusively one-off installations
  • Hands-on management of vendor execution, including oversight of installation quality and adherence to project timelines
  • Excellent documentation capabilities and communication skills with cross-functional teams, particularly non-design collaborators
  • Prepared and able to travel regularly, 50-75% of the time, throughout the United States
  • Located in the U.S. and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in designing premium environments with rigorous quality expectations, including boutique hospitality, luxury retail, or high-end private projects
  • Proficiency with spatial design and documentation platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit, Figma, or similar tools
  • Intuitive ability to identify what elevates a space to feel premium, particularly within constrained budgets
