Description

Certain spaces simply work. You instinctively want to understand what makes them succeed. If you're a designer who perceives both granular details and overarching systems, who thrives in physical environments rather than on conceptual boards, and who is convinced that elegant, practical spaces can and must be replicated at scale, this role channels your sensibilities into meaningful action.

We are constructing a nationwide network of 2 Hour Learning campuses—environments where students complete an entire academic day in two concentrated hours, then dedicate the remainder of their time to passion exploration, life skill development, and physical activity. Your responsibility is to render these spaces memorable. As the execution lead for interior environments across our network, you will establish modular standards governing layout, FF&E, play areas, and wayfinding. You will guarantee flawless execution at each location. You will visit campuses, identify shortfalls that escape others, define upgrades, and shepherd them from budgeting through installation.

This role differs from conventional design positions in that it refuses separation from implementation. You will not submit drawings and cross your fingers. You will be present—correcting the installation, coaching the vendor, and gathering the insights that refine the next deployment. If you are prepared to transform your design expertise into national influence, this is your opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Establish modular, self-service design frameworks for layout, FF&E, materials, and play environments that replicate across varied campuses
  • Execute on-site evaluations using standardized instruments to measure adherence to brand guidelines and identify high-leverage enhancements
  • Produce scoped, visual, budgeted recommendations for spatial improvements that reflect pedagogy, brand identity, and parent expectations
  • Supervise vendor implementation in the field, ensuring compliance with standards, budgets, and schedules through real-time quality assurance
  • Complete the feedback cycle post-installation by recording outcomes, lessons learned, and revising playbooks to reflect findings

What you will NOT be doing

  • Crafting unique, artisanal environments that resist scaling or replication.
  • Delivering specifications and disengaging. You own the process from evaluation through installation.
  • Waiting for flawless information. This position values initiative, rapid iteration, and sound judgment amid uncertainty.
  • Generating unconstrained designs from a blank slate. The work is tightly brand-aligned and operationally rooted.
  • Operating remotely from a desk. You will spend 50-75% of your time in the field.

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every campus provides a premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically reinforcing physical experience by developing and implementing modular design systems that sustain quality at scale.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing and executing multi-site environments in education, retail, hospitality, or co-working sectors
  • Portfolio demonstrating real-world projects that reconcile aesthetic excellence with operational feasibility
  • Proven experience developing repeatable, standards-driven design systems, not merely bespoke environments
  • Hands-on oversight of vendor execution, including management of installation quality and project timelines
  • Excellent documentation capabilities and cross-functional communication skills, particularly with non-design collaborators
  • Willing and able to travel frequently, 50-75% of the time, throughout the U.S.
  • Based in the U.S. and authorized to work without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background designing premium environments with rigorous standards, such as boutique hospitality, luxury retail, or private client projects
  • Proficiency with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Figma, or comparable platforms for spatial documentation
  • An intuitive sense for what elevates a space to premium status, even within constrained budgets
