Senior Vice President Design and Construction   $400,000 USD/year

Description

If you've stood in a thoughtfully designed environment and recognized exactly why it works — then wondered how to replicate that precision across 100 locations — this position was created for you. We're not seeking a hands-on concept designer. We're seeking the operational architect who can establish a national function that consistently produces premium, brand-coherent, and pedagogically sound spaces at scale.

2 Hour Learning operates on an inverted school model. Two hours of concentrated academics. The remainder of the day dedicated to passion, movement, and experiential learning. That fundamental reimagining requires environments with equally intentional design — and we need a leader to drive it forward. You'll design the frameworks, standards, and teams that guarantee every campus fulfills that vision. You'll oversee a growing cohort of regional design leads and vendor partners, synchronize priorities across departments, and champion the design innovations that enhance experience, perception, and retention.

This is not a detached creative leadership role. You'll be in the field, coaching team members, inspecting installations, and refining the operational playbook as conditions evolve. You'll construct the infrastructure that scales exceptional environments — and ensure its sustained performance.

What you will be doing

  • Establish and oversee a national Space & Design function, including organizational structure, vendor ecosystem, and accountability systems
  • Develop and refine modular standards, brand identity, and technical documentation to enable uniform deployment across varied campus types
  • Synchronize design investments with capital expenditure strategy, enrollment projections, and operational realities using data-driven planning
  • Source, test, and implement design innovations that elevate student experience, parent perception, and staff morale
  • Function as a strategic collaborator with cross-functional leadership

What you will NOT be doing

  • Personally designing individual spaces — your responsibility is to scale the talent and infrastructure that execute
  • Pursuing isolated upgrades or prestige projects — every initiative must connect to measurable outcomes and return on investment
  • Functioning as an isolated creative executive — this position is tightly integrated with planning, delivery, and performance management
  • Leading remotely — you'll travel frequently to remain engaged with on-the-ground execution and team growth
  • Preserving existing processes — you'll be charged with evolving and advancing the function continuously

Key responsibilities

Establish and lead a scalable design function that guarantees every campus provides a premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically effective environment — with quantifiable impact on experience, enrollment, and retention.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years leading physical environments across a multi-site organization, with at least 25+ locations
  • Direct experience designing environments for UHNW clients or luxury brands, with the capacity to assess premium quality at every touchpoint
  • Demonstrated success building and managing a team, overseeing external partners, and structuring a national deployment function
  • Track record creating and refining standards-driven design systems for multiple site typologies
  • Strategic planning capability alongside cross-functional teams
  • Refined taste and discernment, combined with operational and financial rigor
  • Based in the U.S., authorized to work without visa sponsorship, and prepared to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Experience in rapidly scaling, brand-conscious environments such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or networked education
  • Portfolio showcasing both physical design mastery and the capability to scale systems across a portfolio
  • Polished communication skills with experience presenting to executives, boards, or investors
