Description

If you've ever entered a space and immediately sensed, "This is precisely what it should be," and then considered how to replicate that standard across 100 locations, this position is designed for you. We're not seeking a conceptual designer. We're seeking the systems architect who can establish a national capability that reliably produces premium, brand-aligned, and educationally coherent environments at scale.

At 2 Hour Learning, our approach inverts the traditional school day. Two hours of concentrated academic work. The remainder dedicated to passion pursuits, physical activity, and experiential learning. That fundamental transformation requires spaces with equal intentionality — and we need a leader to drive this effort. You'll design the frameworks, standards, and teams that guarantee every campus fulfills that vision. You'll oversee an expanding team of regional design leaders and vendor partners, harmonize priorities across functions, and pinpoint the design advancements that influence experience quality, brand perception, and student retention.

This is not a detached creative leadership position. You'll be in the field, coaching team members, evaluating installations, and refining operational protocols in real time. You'll construct the infrastructure that scales exceptional environments — and ensure its sustained performance.

What you will be doing

  • Establish and lead a national Space & Design capability, including organizational structure, vendor partnerships, and accountability frameworks
  • Create and refine modular design standards, brand identity guidelines, and technical documentation to enable consistent deployment across varied campus types
  • Synchronize design capital allocation with CapEx frameworks, enrollment projections, and operational realities through evidence-based planning
  • Source, test, and implement design innovations that enhance student experience, strengthen parent perception, and elevate staff satisfaction
  • Function as a strategic collaborator to cross-functional leadership

What you will NOT be doing

  • Personally designing individual spaces — your responsibility is to scale the teams and systems that execute
  • Pursuing isolated upgrades or aesthetic-only initiatives — every project must connect to measurable outcomes and return on investment
  • Operating as an independent creative function — this role is fully integrated into planning, execution, and performance measurement
  • Leading from headquarters — you'll travel frequently to maintain proximity to on-the-ground implementation and team growth
  • Preserving existing approaches — you'll be accountable for continuously improving and advancing the function

Key responsibilities

Establish and direct a scalable design operation that guarantees every campus produces a premium, brand-consistent, and educationally reinforcing environment — with quantifiable influence on experience quality, enrollment metrics, and retention performance.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years managing physical environments across a multi-location organization, with at least 25+ sites
  • Direct experience creating spaces for UHNW clients or luxury brands, with demonstrated ability to identify premium quality in every element
  • Documented success building and managing teams, overseeing external partners, and establishing a national deployment function
  • Track record developing and refining standards-driven design frameworks for multiple site configurations
  • Strategic planning capability with cross-functional leadership teams
  • Refined aesthetic judgment and discernment, combined with operational and fiscal rigor
  • Based in the U.S., authorized to work without visa sponsorship, and willing to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Experience in rapidly scaling, brand-focused contexts such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or network-based education
  • Portfolio evidencing both physical design quality and proven capacity to scale systems across multiple properties
  • Exceptional communication capabilities with experience presenting to executive leadership, boards, or investor audiences
