Technical Team Lead   $200,000 USD/year

Description

We're looking for Technical Team Leads to drive quality and delivery on our app-level products. You'll lead a small team (3-5 engineers) building educational apps used by thousands of students.

Products you might work on:

  • Athena: AI-generated videos and tests delivering measurable academic outcomes
  • TeachTap: AI bringing historical figures to life in a TikTok-like learning experience
  • TeachTales: Personalized, magical storytelling that boosts comprehension
  • TrashCat: Gamified learning making education fun and engaging

This is a player-coach role: 50% hands-on building the complex features, 50% coaching and enabling your team. You set the quality bar, establish patterns, review code with teaching-focused feedback, and help engineers grow. You're accountable for team outcomes, not just your own code.

Small team, high ownership, no bureaucracy. You lead technically; someone else handles the HR side.

What you will be doing

  • Building complex features that set the pattern for your team
  • Reviewing PRs with detailed, teaching-focused feedback
  • Coaching engineers through pairing and feedback
  • Coordinating technical work and breaking down requirements
  • Setting quality standards and ensuring the team follows them

What you will NOT be doing

  • Managing people (hiring, firing, performance reviews, career conversations)
  • Working on platform-level infrastructure
  • Sitting in endless meetings
  • Pure architecture without implementation

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
