High School Guide Oklahoma City   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Most people in education spend their energy fighting the system. Writing lesson plans nobody reads. Sitting through faculty meetings that change nothing. You stopped believing that was the job a long time ago. The job is the kid in front of you.

At Alpha, software teaches the academics. Adaptive apps move each student through subjects at their own pace. No lectures, no homework, no grading. That frees you to do the work that actually changes lives: running life skill workshops where teenagers learn public speaking, focus, and how to give and receive feedback, then coaching them one-on-one to stay motivated and hit their learning goals. Half your day is leading a room. The other half is sitting across from a student, using their Coachbot data to figure out exactly where they're stuck and why.

Your students will take a mastery-based assessment after each workshop. 90%+ of them should rate you highly. 100% of them should be advancing in their apps. Those aren't aspirational numbers; they're the bar. Holding students to high standards is how you show them you believe they can get there. Along the way, you'll become an expert at designing workshops that teenagers can't wait to join, mastering cutting-edge learning software, and building lasting bonds with students and their families. Our Brownsville campus sits next to SpaceX. The frontier of education meets the frontier of space exploration, and you'll be the person delivering on Alpha's core promise: students who love school, learn twice as fast, and build skills that actually matter. If you've been waiting for a school that works the way you think school should work, this is it.

What you will be doing

  • Leading one-hour life skill workshops with high school students on topics like public speaking, focus, and giving and receiving feedback, then measuring mastery through a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Running daily motivation sessions using Coachbot analytics to connect with individual students, identify where they're stuck in their learning apps, and push them past resistance
  • Designing custom motivational strategies with students, including rewards and incentives that drive self-directed progress in their academic apps
  • Reviewing curriculum and lesson plans before each session, then adapting delivery based on your read of the room

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching academic subjects. Software handles math, reading, and every other subject.
  • Managing a school or leading a team. No budgets, no hiring, no operational meetings; your entire focus is your cohort of students.
  • Disciplining through traditional authority. No detentions, no suspensions, no "because I said so." You use logic and positive reinforcement to build a respectful, high-energy environment.

Key responsibilities

Build a cohort of high school students who love school, learn 2x faster through adaptive software, and demonstrate mastery of real-world life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Background as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader who has motivated teenagers outside a traditional classroom
  • Track record of leading groups toward measurable goals (completion rates, performance benchmarks, behavior change)
  • Experience with adaptive learning platforms or ed-tech tools
  • Storytelling ability that holds a room of teenagers' attention, delivered with cultural awareness and relatability
