Director of Enrollment   $200,000 USD/year

Description

LOCATION NOTE: This position is on-site in the cities listed below and requires local travel as needed. We provide relocation assistance to candidates who have concrete relocation plans and timelines.

You excel in the unpredictability of startup environments. Your background includes delivering white-glove service to high-net-worth clients. You hold a genuine conviction that AI can transform education and are prepared to articulate that conviction to doubters. If these conditions feel daunting, this position is not aligned with your strengths.

Alpha is not a conventional educational institution. We are a technology startup demonstrating that every child possesses exceptional potential. Our students complete their core academic work in two hours daily through AI-powered applications, dedicating the remaining time to practical competencies: public speaking, critical thinking, collaborative challenges, and meaningful projects. No traditional lectures. No filler assignments. Only accelerated learning producing top 1% performance nationwide. Parents demand concierge-quality service. You will continuously defend this approach against concerns about screen exposure, skepticism from traditional education advocates, and reactions that it seems implausibly effective.

During year zero and year one, this functions as an enrollment sales position. You control the entire pipeline from initial inquiry through executed enrollment agreements, managing conversion goals and CRM systems. We will not launch a campus with fewer than 25 enrolled students. Achieving that threshold is your responsibility. You will deliver compelling information sessions, lead personalized tours, maintain persistent follow-up, and finalize agreements. After reaching 25 students and bringing an admissions director aboard, your role transitions to serving as the campus's principal parent-facing leader. You will cultivate loyalty, address concerns with white-glove attention, and convert satisfied parents into vocal advocates who actively recruit others.

This position carries high trust and autonomy with transparent expectations. You will operate independently without substantial administrative infrastructure, marketing resources, or established protocols. Strategy evolves based on evidence. Systems are still forming. You will construct them. Most of your working hours will be spent outside the physical campus (coffee conversations, lunch networking, Chamber of Commerce participation) rather than at a desk. You will maintain visibility during morning arrival and afternoon departure. You will participate in evening parent gatherings and periodic weekend student programming. One poorly matched family within a cohort of 25 can disrupt the entire dynamic, making the ability to decline wrong-fit families equally important as enrolling right-fit ones.

The opportunity? You will observe transformations rarely seen by most educators: skeptical parents evolving into passionate advocates, reserved students presenting confidently to adults, families selecting your campus over prestigious private schools. You will create something from inception and claim ownership of outcomes.

If you believe conventional schools are underserving children and a superior approach exists, this is your opportunity to demonstrate it.

HIRING FOR THESE LOCATIONS:

  • CA: Santa Barbara, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Piedmont (East Bay), & Lake Forest (Orange Co.)
  • MD: Bethesda
  • VA: Chantilly
  • WA: Kirkland (Seattle)

What you will be doing

  • Control the enrollment sales pipeline during year 0-1, from initial inquiry through signed agreements, managing conversion goals and CRM until the 25-student threshold is achieved
  • Lead information sessions and campus tours that convert interested parents while strategically declining misaligned families (selective rejection is as critical as acceptance)
  • Function as the primary liaison for high-net-worth families investing $40K+ annually, delivering white-glove service that transforms parents into advocates
  • Establish visibility through consistent on-site presence during morning arrival (7-9am) and afternoon departure (2-4pm), while spending the majority of days in community settings for coffee meetings, networking, and partnership development
  • Articulate and defend Alpha's AI-powered approach to skeptical parents questioning screen exposure and non-traditional education methods
  • Mobilize parent champions by creating exceptional experiences that inspire families to recruit their networks

What you will NOT be doing

  • Maintaining standard 9-5 schedules (early mornings, late afternoons, and evening programming are expected)
  • Executing established procedures and playbooks (you will create systems within a startup context)
  • Depending on administrative personnel, marketing departments, or enrollment infrastructure (you operate independently)
  • Enrolling every applicant family (selectivity is a fundamental competency)
  • Working from a desk (this position demands daily community engagement and relationship cultivation)

Key responsibilities

Control enrollment sales during year 0-1, then transition to cultivating parent relationships that generate advocates and fuel word-of-mouth expansion.

Candidate requirements

  • Currently reside within a commuting distance of one of these campuses OR willing to relocate within 60 days (preference for existing local connections): Santa Barbara, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Lake Forest, CA; Bethesda, MD; Fort Worth, TX; Austin, TX; or Kirkland, WA.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • 5+ years in a role that involved working with high-net worth clients in a consultative sales or high-touch customer experience role (such as private school enrollment/admissions, luxury sales, hospitality, philanthropy, etc.)
  • Demonstrated enrollment/sales funnel success with conversion metrics you can discuss
  • Executive presence and communication skills to earn trust and guide sophisticated decision-making with affluent families
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter comfortable as a solo operator in a startup environment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI-powered education, with comfort defending the model to skeptical parents who question screen time and non-traditional approaches
  • Availability for flexible hours: early mornings (7-9am), late afternoons (2-4pm), evening events (2-3x/month), and weekend activities

Nice to have

Exceptional candidates will have at least one of the items below:

  • Existing network in the local affluent community with established relationships
  • Private school or independent school enrollment/admissions leadership experience with proven results
  • Sales, business development, or fundraising track record with high-value clients
  • Previous startup or early-stage company experience navigating ambiguity and rapid change
  • Event planning and community organizing experience creating memorable experiences
  • Real estate, development, or major gift fundraising experience working with UHNW individuals

This is not conventional schooling, and this is not conventional parent engagement.

At Alpha, parent advocacy functions as a growth mechanism rather than a support role. You will facilitate high-trust dialogues, orchestrate events that convert attendees, and build conviction one family at a time. This requires mastering both messaging and the underlying model. You must understand precisely what differentiates Alpha—and how to articulate that in ways that resonate and motivate.
