At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through content at an individualized pace. No lectures, no assignments to grade, no homework to check. This structure allows you to focus on what truly transforms outcomes: facilitating life skills workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking ability, concentration, and feedback literacy, then providing personalized coaching to maintain their momentum and achieve learning targets. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half involves one-on-one conversations with students, leveraging Coachbot analytics to pinpoint exactly where obstacles exist and why.
Students complete a mastery-based evaluation following each workshop. You should receive high ratings from over 90% of participants. Every student should demonstrate consistent progress in their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals; they define the standard. Expecting excellence from students communicates your confidence in their potential. Through this work, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops teenagers actively want to attend, mastering advanced educational technology, and forming meaningful connections with students and families. What you will be doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering areas such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, followed by evaluating mastery via structured Test2Pass assessments
- Conducting daily one-on-one motivation sessions informed by Coachbot data to engage individual students, diagnose learning app roadblocks, and help them overcome resistance
- Co-creating personalized motivational frameworks with students, including reward systems and incentives that encourage autonomous advancement in academic applications
- Preparing by reviewing curriculum materials and session plans, then adjusting your approach in real time based on student engagement and energy
What you will NOT be doing
- Delivering academic content. All core subjects—math, reading, and others—are taught through software.
- Overseeing school operations or managing staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your sole priority is the students in your cohort.
- Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. No detention, no suspension, no "do it because I told you to." You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, energized learning space.
Key responsibilities
Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about school, achieve learning velocity 2x faster via adaptive software, and exhibit mastery of practical life skills.
Candidate requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3+ years of direct experience working with high school students (ages 13-18)
- Availability to work on-site in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
- Authorization to work legally in the US
Nice to have
- Experience as a sports coach, camp counselor, or youth program facilitator who has inspired teenagers in non-classroom settings
- Demonstrated success guiding groups to quantifiable outcomes (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral improvements)
- Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms
- Narrative skill that captures and maintains teenage attention, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
