Youth Development Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus comprehensive health benefits

Most educators exhaust themselves battling bureaucracy. Creating lesson plans no one will use. Attending meetings that accomplish nothing. You realized years ago that wasn't the real work. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no homework assignments, no grading papers. This structure liberates you to focus on work that genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking abilities, concentration, and feedback competencies, then providing individual coaching to maintain their motivation and achievement of learning objectives. Half your time is spent facilitating group sessions. The other half is dedicated to one-on-one conversations, analyzing Coachbot data to pinpoint precisely where each student encounters obstacles and understand the underlying causes.

Students complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop. Over 90% should consistently provide positive evaluations of your work. 100% should demonstrate continuous progress in their applications. These aren't aspirational targets; they define the standard. Maintaining rigorous expectations demonstrates your confidence in their potential. Throughout this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers genuinely anticipate, mastering advanced learning technology, and establishing meaningful relationships with students and their families. Our Brownsville location is adjacent to SpaceX facilities. The cutting edge of education converges with the frontier of space innovation, and you'll be the individual fulfilling Alpha's fundamental commitment: students who are engaged in school, accelerate their learning by a factor of two, and acquire genuinely applicable skills. If you've been searching for an educational environment aligned with your vision of how school should function, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, followed by evaluating mastery using a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions that leverage Coachbot analytics to engage with individual students, diagnose learning app obstacles, and guide them through challenges
  • Co-creating personalized motivational approaches with students, incorporating rewards and incentive structures that encourage independent advancement in their academic applications
  • Examining curriculum materials and session plans prior to delivery, then adjusting your approach according to real-time classroom dynamics

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic content. Mathematics, literacy, and all other subjects are managed through software.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your complete attention remains on your student cohort.
  • Enforcing rules through conventional disciplinary methods. No detention assignments, no suspension decisions, no appeals to positional authority. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized learning environment.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about their education, achieve 2x accelerated learning through adaptive software, and exhibit mastery of practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Brownsville, TX (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has successfully motivated teenagers in non-traditional classroom environments
  • Demonstrated history of guiding groups to achieve quantifiable outcomes (completion rates, performance benchmarks, behavior change)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or ed-tech tools
  • Strong storytelling capability that captures and maintains teenage audiences' attention, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
