Youth Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Most educators burn energy battling bureaucracy. They draft lesson plans no one reviews. They endure staff meetings that accomplish nothing. You abandoned that notion of the job years ago. The job is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academics are taught by software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. No lectures, no assignments, no grading. This frees you to focus on work that genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills, then coaching them individually to maintain motivation and reach learning milestones. Half your day involves leading group sessions. The other half is spent one-on-one with a student, analyzing their Coachbot data to pinpoint precisely where they're struggling and why.

After each workshop, your students will complete a mastery-based assessment. 90%+ should rate you favorably. 100% should be progressing through their apps. These aren't stretch goals; they're the standard. Maintaining high expectations is how you demonstrate belief in their potential. In the process, you'll develop expertise in designing workshops teenagers eagerly attend, mastering advanced learning software, and forging enduring relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education meets the cutting edge of space exploration, and you'll be the person fulfilling Alpha's central promise: students who love school, learn at double speed, and acquire skills that genuinely matter. If you've been looking for a school that operates the way you believe schools should operate, this is it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops with high school students covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, then assessing mastery via a structured Test2Pass evaluation
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics to engage individual students, determine where they're blocked in their learning apps, and guide them through obstacles
  • Creating personalized motivational approaches with students, including reward systems and incentives that encourage self-directed advancement in their academic apps
  • Examining curriculum and lesson plans prior to each session, then modifying delivery according to your assessment of the room

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching academic content. Software delivers math, reading, and all other subjects.
  • Managing a school or supervising a team. No budgets, no recruiting, no operational meetings; your complete focus is your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority. No detentions, no suspensions, no "because I said so." You employ logic and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, high-energy environment.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who love school, learn 2x faster through adaptive software, and demonstrate mastery of real-world life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Background as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader who has motivated teenagers outside a traditional classroom
  • Track record of leading groups toward measurable goals (completion rates, performance benchmarks, behavior change)
  • Experience with adaptive learning platforms or ed-tech tools
  • Storytelling ability that holds a room of teenagers' attention, delivered with cultural awareness and relatability
