Youth Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Most educators waste their time navigating bureaucracy. Drafting lesson plans no one will ever review. Attending staff meetings that produce no meaningful change. You realized long ago that none of that is the real work. The real work is the student sitting across from you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is handled entirely by software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through content at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no assignments to grade, no homework packets. This structure allows you to focus on what genuinely transforms outcomes: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking ability, concentration, and feedback literacy, then providing individual coaching to maintain motivation and achievement of learning targets. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half involves one-on-one conversations with students, leveraging Coachbot analytics to pinpoint exactly where progress has stalled and uncover the underlying cause.

After every workshop, students complete a mastery-based assessment. You should consistently earn strong ratings from 90%+ of participants. Every single student should be progressing through their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals—they define the standard. Setting high expectations demonstrates your confidence in their capacity to succeed. In this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers actively anticipate, mastering state-of-the-art learning platforms, and forming meaningful relationships with both students and their families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education intersects with the cutting edge of aerospace, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's foundational commitment: students who are excited about school, achieve learning gains at double the typical rate, and acquire skills with genuine real-world value. If you've been searching for an educational environment aligned with your vision of how schooling should function, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration techniques, and feedback exchange, followed by structured Test2Pass assessments to verify mastery
  • Conducting daily individual motivation sessions that utilize Coachbot data to engage with students personally, diagnose obstacles within their learning applications, and help them overcome challenges
  • Collaborating with students to create personalized motivational frameworks, including reward systems and incentives that promote autonomous advancement through academic software
  • Examining curriculum materials and session plans prior to delivery, then adjusting your approach based on real-time assessment of student engagement and readiness

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering instruction in academic content areas. All subjects including mathematics and literacy are taught through software.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. You won't handle budgets, recruitment, or administrative meetings; your attention remains exclusively on your student group.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. There are no detentions, suspensions, or "do it because I'm in charge" mandates. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized learning space.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about attending school, accelerate their learning by 2x through adaptive technology, and achieve mastery in practical life skills applicable beyond the classroom.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with high school-aged youth (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work on-site in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation support provided)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has successfully motivated adolescents in non-classroom settings
  • Demonstrated history of guiding groups to achieve quantifiable objectives (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral improvements)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms
  • Ability to engage and hold the attention of teenage audiences through storytelling, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authentic connection
