Lead Pre-K Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

Exceptional preschool educators don't rely on scripts. They thrive in schools that honor their professional judgment.

If you're an educator who sees play as purposeful work, prioritizes connection over compliance, and treats every moment as a teaching opportunity, Alpha is your environment.

This is a full-time, in-person position in Manhattan, where you'll lead a Pre-K classroom that values emotional safety, intellectual curiosity, and tangible developmental progress in equal measure. You'll create meaningful, play-based learning opportunities that support children in developing confidence, resilience, foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and an authentic enthusiasm for learning. We seek educators who understand that quality preschool isn't simply supervision—it's the bedrock for all future learning.

Alpha is transforming education by accelerating academic mastery and freeing up time for the critical life skills students need. That transformation starts in Pre-K with outstanding teachers who understand how to make play intentional and impactful.

We welcome candidates from throughout the New York metro region. If you're a talented educator interested in relocating closer to the city, relocation assistance will be provided.

If you've been searching for a school that recognizes early childhood education as a career—not a placeholder—we invite you to apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Craft engaging, multi-sensory learning experiences that deliberately support early literacy, numeracy, emotional regulation, and social competence.
  • Build a classroom environment where each child feels emotionally secure, truly understood, and eager to attend school daily.
  • Monitor children's development through continuous observation, record significant progress, and apply those observations to individualize instruction.
  • Modify learning activities to align with individual interests and developmental stages, ensuring every child achieves visible growth.
  • Collaborate consistently with families to communicate progress, acknowledge achievements, and extend each child's learning journey at home.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing children without intentional developmental objectives guiding each activity.
  • Implementing pre-packaged curricula, depending on worksheets, or prioritizing obedience over exploration.
  • Dedicating most of your time to behavior management instead of fostering children's self-regulation skills.
  • Placing children in front of digital learning platforms while you observe passively.

Key responsibilities

Establish a Pre-K classroom environment where each child cultivates an enduring passion for learning while achieving outstanding progress across the developmental domains that determine long-term success.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work full-time, on-site in Manhattan, New York City (relocation assistance available)
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher, or possess any U.S. state teaching license or certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children ages 3-5 in a structured, play-based classroom or group environment
  • Proven experience documenting developmental milestones through a structured framework or assessment tool (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, HighScope COR, etc.)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in a Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Bank Street, or similar inquiry-driven early childhood program
  • Prior experience in an independent school or academically rigorous preschool setting
  • Knowledge of child-development frameworks, observation protocols, or portfolio-based assessment methods
  • Experience tailoring play-based activities to match individual interests, abilities, and developmental objectives
