Preschool Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

Great preschool teachers don't require a script. They require a school that values their professional judgment.

If you're an educator who understands that play is purposeful work, that connection precedes academics, and that every moment holds potential for development, Alpha is where you belong.

This full-time, on-site position in Manhattan involves leading a Pre-K classroom where emotional well-being, intellectual curiosity, and documented developmental progress hold equal weight. You'll create meaningful, play-based learning environments that foster confidence, resilience, foundational literacy, numeracy, and authentic enthusiasm for learning. We seek educators who recognize that quality preschool education isn't simply supervision—it's the groundwork for all future learning.

Alpha is transforming education by accelerating academic mastery, freeing up time to cultivate essential life competencies. This approach starts in Pre-K with accomplished teachers who understand how to transform play into intentional learning.

We anticipate hiring candidates from throughout the New York metro area. If you're a talented educator interested in relocating closer to the city, relocation assistance will be provided.

If you've been searching for a school that honors early childhood education as a career—not merely a temporary role—submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Develop engaging, sensory-focused learning environments that deliberately cultivate early literacy, numeracy, emotional regulation, and social growth.
  • Establish a classroom environment where each child feels emotionally secure, genuinely understood, and enthusiastic about attending school daily.
  • Monitor children's developmental trajectories through ongoing observation, record significant progress, and apply these findings to individualize instruction.
  • Modify learning activities based on individual interests and developmental stages, ensuring every child achieves observable growth.
  • Collaborate regularly with families to communicate progress, acknowledge achievements, and extend developmental support into the home environment.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing children without intentional developmental objectives guiding each activity.
  • Implementing prescribed curricula, depending on worksheets, or prioritizing compliance over intellectual curiosity.
  • Devoting your time to behavior management instead of fostering children's emotional self-regulation skills.
  • Placing children before educational software while you observe passively from a distance.

Key responsibilities

Establish a Pre-K learning environment where each child builds an enduring passion for learning while achieving outstanding progress across the developmental competencies that determine long-term success.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work full-time, on-site in Manhattan, New York City (relocation assistance available)
  • Hold an associate's degree or above, or possess any U.S. state teaching license or credential
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with children ages 3-5 in an organized, play-based classroom or group environment
  • Background in recording developmental milestones through a structured framework or assessment instrument (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, HighScope COR, etc.)
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship requirements

Nice to have

  • Background in a Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Bank Street, or similar inquiry-driven early childhood program
  • Prior work in an independent school or academically rigorous preschool setting
  • Knowledge of child-development models, observational tools, or portfolio-based evaluation methods
  • Practice in tailoring play-based experiences to match individual interests, abilities, and developmental objectives
