Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This role requires in-person attendance at our Austin, Texas campus.

Traditional schools focus on what students should think. This position is about teaching them how to deliver results.

Alpha is creating an alternative high school model—one where students don't passively absorb lectures or memorize facts. Instead, they build, ship, communicate, and evolve. They launch projects, experiment with ideas, and acquire practical skills that many adults never obtain. Your responsibility is to ensure they follow through effectively.

You will engage directly with high school students as they launch businesses, manage projects, and cultivate the confidence, communication ability, and competence needed to thrive after graduation. You are not hired to deliver theory. You are hired to coach action. You will establish rigorous expectations, maintain accountability, and challenge students to create work that meets real-world standards. As the program expands, your impact grows with it; your sessions integrate into the school's core operations, and the students you mentor become evidence of what this approach achieves.

This position suits individuals who have accomplished something substantial beyond academic settings—launched a product, built an audience, worked in a startup, or delivered results in a high-intensity environment—and are ready to channel that expertise into developing future leaders. If you seek a conventional teaching position, look elsewhere. If you aim to influence how driven teenagers think, operate, and perform, this is your opportunity.

If you have achieved meaningful outcomes in your professional life and want to invest your time challenging ambitious teenagers to reach their capabilities, this is the place. Apply today

What you will be doing

  • Create and lead practical workshops (40% of your time) covering subjects including entrepreneurship, financial literacy, personal branding, and other applied domains; leveraging your own career experience
  • Provide 1:1 coaching (60% of your time) as students work through actual projects in targeted areas—businesses, marketing initiatives, coding products—using strategic questioning to identify obstacles and drive tangible advancement
  • Maintain rigorous standards for confidence, communication, and capability; stepping in when performance declines and establishing clear commitments during every session
  • Train students on leveraging AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude) for content generation, refinement, and efficiency
  • Maintain transparent communication with students and parents regarding progress, deficiencies, and action items

What you will NOT be doing

  • Conducting traditional lectures or following a standardized curriculum
  • Evaluating large volumes of homework or emphasizing theoretical concepts
  • Accommodating disengaged students or compromising standards for comfort
  • Working within a slow-moving, bureaucratic educational system

Key responsibilities

Produce quantifiable improvements in students' confidence, communication skills, and practical capability by mentoring them to execute consistently at an elevated standard.

Candidate requirements

  • Verified record of significant personal accomplishment in at least one practical domain: launching a company, building an audience, generating revenue, publishing research, competing at an elite level, or equivalent
  • Established ability to guide teenagers through resistance or evasion
  • 3+ years mentoring/coaching teenagers
  • Direct, unambiguous communication approach: confident presenting to audiences and providing candid feedback to teenagers and parents
  • Proficiency with AI/technology tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)
  • Available to work on-site in Austin, TX. Relocation support is provided
  • Authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Specialized expertise in at least one applied field (entrepreneurship, medicine, sales, technology, creative sectors, finance, athletics) that you can incorporate into coaching sessions and workshops with precision
  • Background working in a startup or fast-growth organization at any capacity
