Startup Coach   $250,000 USD/year

Description

Develop founders, not curriculum.

The conventional view holds that high school exists to prepare students for what comes next. We believe what comes next begins today. Founders School is a four-year secondary institution for students unwilling to postpone meaningful work until they reach adulthood. These students aren't working through hypothetical case studies. They're building functioning companies, collaborating with experienced founders, becoming fluent in AI, and tackling real challenges. Our expectations match their drive: launch a million-dollar business, uncover problems that demand solutions, and achieve AI mastery ahead of most adults. Your responsibility is to make that drive sustainable.

You won't deliver lectures or dictate how students should operate their ventures. You'll coach a cohort of young entrepreneurs daily, ensuring they remain accountable, navigate obstacles, and maintain momentum when company-building becomes challenging. You'll recognize when to push them harder, when to offer support, and when to facilitate introductions to the appropriate mentor or tool. The structured curriculum, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, and founder ecosystem deliver the startup knowledge. You deliver the structure, rigor, and forward motion that transform capability into achievement.

This role also represents a chance to co-create something new. As part of our founding team in New York City, you'll influence the culture, operational systems, and student experience of an institution built to reimagine the outcomes high school can deliver. Your contributions will extend beyond a single student cohort. They will inform the operating model for every Founders School location that opens afterward. If you're drawn to the startup world, believe that elevated standards yield elevated performance, and want to channel your effort into shaping the next wave of entrepreneurs, we should talk.

What you will be doing

  • Guide and energize a group of student founders through structured weekly 1:1 sessions, daily progress reviews, and team stand-ups that ensure continuous, tangible advancement.
  • Maintain exceptionally high standards for execution while delivering the guidance and accountability students require to push past challenges and continue building.
  • Track student performance using FounderOS, recognize when learners encounter roadblocks, and facilitate access to mentors, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, or other tools that drive accelerated development.
  • Contribute to shaping the culture, rituals, programming, events, and operational cadence of a premier entrepreneurial secondary school.
  • Accompany students on multiple trips annually while cultivating enduring relationships with founders, investors, operators, and entrepreneurial communities.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Serving as the primary business strategist or developing operational plans for student ventures. FounderOS, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, and external mentors handle that function.
  • Delivering conventional academic instruction or evaluating traditional coursework.
  • Tolerating mediocre output from students with the capacity for outstanding work.
  • Facilitating sessions beyond your domain of competence or defaulting to surface-level startup guidance.
  • Operating within a bureaucratic educational structure where process interferes with genuine student impact.

Key responsibilities

Establish conditions in which every student reliably develops entrepreneurial capability through a combination of superior coaching, rigorous accountability, strategic connections, and a culture that transforms ambitious young people into competent founders.

Candidate requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or high-impact role within a startup or high-growth organization.
  • Solid business acumen and the confidence to work effectively with early-stage founders while recognizing when to engage specialists.
  • Proven capacity to coach, inspire, and maintain accountability with high-performing individuals.
  • Active, daily use of AI to enhance both the quality and efficiency of your output.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-development abilities with students, families, mentors, and entrepreneurs.
  • Commitment to full-time, on-site work in New York City, including periodic travel during the year.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Experience as a founder or co-founder of a company.
  • Background in coaching, mentoring, or managing programs for teenagers or emerging adults.
  • A developed network including founders, investors, operators, or advisors.
  • History working in early-stage ventures where cross-functional work was routine.
