Early Childhood Lead Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

Exceptional preschool teachers don't require scripted curricula. They require a school that values their professional judgment.

If you're an educator who views play as meaningful work, prioritizes relationships over rote academics, and sees each moment as a chance for development, Alpha is the right fit.

This is a full-time, in-person position in Manhattan, where you will lead a Pre-K classroom focused equally on emotional safety, curiosity, and measurable developmental progress. You'll create engaging, play-based learning environments that foster confidence, resilience, early literacy, numeracy, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. We seek educators who understand that excellent preschool is not daycare—it's the groundwork for all future learning.

Alpha is transforming education by accelerating academic mastery, freeing up time for the essential life skills that matter equally. This vision starts in Pre-K with outstanding teachers who understand how to make play intentional and purposeful.

We anticipate hiring candidates from throughout the New York metro region. If you're a highly skilled educator interested in relocating closer to the city, relocation assistance is available.

If you've been searching for a school that honors early childhood education as a true profession—not merely a career waypoint—submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Develop joyful, sensorially rich learning experiences that deliberately cultivate early literacy, numeracy, self-regulation, and social competence.
  • Build a classroom environment where every child feels emotionally secure, truly understood, and eager to arrive each day.
  • Monitor children's developmental progress continuously, record significant growth, and apply those observations to individualize instruction.
  • Modify activities based on each child's interests and developmental readiness, ensuring every learner achieves measurable advancement.
  • Collaborate actively with families to communicate progress, acknowledge milestones, and extend each child's development outside the classroom.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing children without intentional developmental goals guiding each activity.
  • Implementing scripted curricula, depending on worksheets, or prioritizing compliance over curiosity.
  • Devoting your time to behavior management instead of supporting children's emotional regulation skills.
  • Placing children in front of academic software while you observe passively from a distance.

Key responsibilities

Establish a Pre-K classroom environment where every child cultivates an enduring passion for learning while achieving exceptional growth across the developmental foundations that define lifelong success.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work full-time, in-person in Manhattan, New York City (relocation assistance is provided)
  • An associate's degree or higher, or any U.S. state teaching license or certification
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children ages 3-5 in a structured, play-based classroom or group setting
  • Experience documenting developmental milestones using a structured framework or assessment tool (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, HighScope COR, etc.)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience in a Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Bank Street, or other inquiry-based early childhood program
  • Experience in an independent school or an academically ambitious preschool
  • Familiarity with child-development frameworks, observation tools, or portfolio-based assessment
  • Experience adapting play-based activities to individual interests, needs, and developmental goals
