Director of Operational Excellence   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Operations isn't a support function here—it's the foundation of everything we do.

At 2 Hour Learning, our AI-native K-12 school network depends entirely on flawless campus operations. Our Operations team doesn't assist with growth; they enable it. Every team member specializes in one of five essential operational domains, rapidly building expertise through hands-on execution and AI-powered skill acceleration:

  • Authorization & Permitting – Navigate multi-state regulatory frameworks and expedite local permits to open new markets.
  • Physical Build-Out & Maintenance – Manage campus construction, facility upgrades, and contractor accountability to ensure excellent, enduring school environments.
  • IT Operational Setup – Deploy complete technology ecosystems—hardware, software, support infrastructure, compliance tooling—for every new campus launch.
  • Financial Operations – Construct budgets, generate real-time reporting dashboards, and ensure audit-grade financial governance across all campuses and business units.
  • PMO – Drive execution velocity for critical technology and marketing projects using vendor performance tracking, operational dashboards, and granular progress reporting.

You might build dashboards that eliminate financial ambiguity. Engineer enrollment workflows that cut student onboarding errors in half. Win regulatory clearance in untapped states. Launch campuses at unprecedented speed. Or develop AI-native operating models that eliminate conventional management overhead. This is mission-critical, fast-tempo execution—led by builders, not administrators.

If you're an operator who sees friction and immediately starts solving—not convening committees—this role will suit you. The systems you create will underpin the 25–30 new schools launching in the coming year. Your contributions will set operational standards for hundreds of team members and thousands of learners. And your results will be undeniable.

What you will be doing

  • Taking full ownership of one core operational pillar: Authorization, Build-Out, Platforms, Finance, or PMO
  • Tackling novel challenges in your domain through AI, automation, and iterative problem-solving
  • Creating precise documentation, dashboards, or operational guides that function across multiple campuses
  • Working directly with real operational constraints: facility contractors, regulatory bodies, technology platforms, and campus personnel
  • Visiting school sites as required to deploy or validate your operational solutions

What you will NOT be doing

  • Relying on product or engineering teams to create your operational tools—you'll build prototypes and automations directly
  • Prompting AI to "generate a standard procedure" and moving on—you'll vibe-code functional solutions that deliver results
  • Operating exclusively from headquarters—anticipate regular travel and on-the-ground implementation
  • Delegating execution of your strategic plans—you'll own both strategy and delivery from start to finish

Key responsibilities

Take complete accountability for outcomes in your designated operations pillar by developing systems that enable rapid-scale school expansion with precision, velocity, and AI-first methodology.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in North America with capacity to travel 25-75% based on operational needs
  • 5+ years in high-velocity, high-autonomy operational roles
  • Excellent analytical capabilities and written communication
  • Action-oriented mindset, collaborative approach, complete ownership mentality
  • Background in at least one of: regulatory compliance, facilities development, SaaS user implementation, FP&A, or technology vendor oversight
  • Leverages AI as reflexively as most use spreadsheets: habitually, regularly, and for diverse applications.
  • Has created automations, structured operational workflows, and explored vibe-coding for practical gains or personal interest.
  • Demonstrated ability to master new domains quickly (legal, finance, compliance, systems, etc.)
