Vice President of Compliance Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

If you've led permitting for schools, hospitals, or commercial facilities and found yourself thinking, "There's a faster way to get this approved," this role may be for you.

2 Hour Learning is scaling the fastest school model in the nation. But no school can open without regulatory clearance. Licenses, permits, and compliance filings must be completed correctly and on an accelerated timeline. You will determine what's needed, submit documents in the correct sequence, and ensure approvals arrive when expected. You'll leverage AI-driven tools and automation, while also engaging directly with contractors, officials, and inspectors to resolve issues automation cannot address.

This position suits individuals who excel under complexity and time pressure. You will operate within a fast-moving organization backed by substantial resources, where rapid execution and rigorous standards are both expected. You will deploy AI to streamline bureaucratic processes, reduce approval cycles, and deliver results—not reports.

If you want to be the operator who converts "pending approval" into "cleared to open," this role is designed for you.

What you will be doing

  • Aligning architects, contractors, and legal counsel to obtain all necessary construction and operational permits for education facilities.
  • Managing municipal permitting and inspection workflows across multiple jurisdictions — reducing cycle times and removing obstacles.
  • Compiling and filing complete approval packages: permits, applications, regulatory submissions, and inspection records.
  • Overseeing project status and compliance exposure across all initiatives — ensuring full transparency and no unexpected issues.
  • Traveling to project sites (~75%) to engage directly with local authorities, inspectors, and service providers to sustain momentum.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Waiting for others to flag problems or submit filings — you will control the full process from start to finish.
  • Operating exclusively from a central office — this role requires active field presence, not remote coordination.
  • Applying a fixed, one-size-fits-all approach per jurisdiction — you will design custom solutions as conditions require.
  • Treating delays as unavoidable — execution speed and accuracy define this role.
  • Depending on outdated systems or manual spreadsheets — you will be expected to automate workflows and improve continuously.

Key responsibilities

Obtain complete legal and operational authorization for school facilities across jurisdictions more rapidly and comprehensively than conventional permitting timelines allow.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in the United States and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship.
  • Able and willing to travel approximately 75% of the time to U.S. cities and states.
  • 5+ years managing permitting, construction, or facilities expansion involving physical infrastructure and regulatory compliance.
  • 5+ years coordinating multiple contractors per project across different jurisdictions.
  • Documented history of completing projects ahead of schedule while maintaining full compliance.
  • Experience delivering progress updates to technical teams and executive leadership.
  • Clear accountability — you served as the sole point of contact for project outcomes and problem resolution.
  • AI-fluent mindset — you use automation and rapid iteration to accelerate delivery.
  • Written communication that is precise, actionable, and credible to senior leadership.
  • Strong regulatory judgment — you recognize when to escalate, seek clarification, or challenge requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience in construction management, education operations, or multi-location retail rollouts.
  • Familiarity with developing or refining AI-based tools for permitting, compliance, or regulatory processes.
  • Prior interaction with fire marshals, building inspectors, and educational licensing authorities.
