Head of Compliance Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

If you've managed the construction and regulatory approval of schools, hospitals, or commercial builds and know timelines can be compressed without cutting corners, this role is worth your attention.

2 Hour Learning is developing the fastest-to-launch school model in the United States. Every new site depends on complete regulatory clearance—licenses, approvals, and filings must be accurate and expedited. Your role is to define requirements, sequence submissions, and ensure authorizations arrive on schedule. You will leverage AI-driven tools and automation systems, but also engage directly: calling officials, coordinating contractors, and resolving exceptions that require human judgment.

This position suits someone who operates effectively under complexity and tight deadlines. You will be embedded in a high-velocity organization with full resourcing and executive backing, where both speed and precision are expected. AI will be your lever to accelerate bureaucratic processes, shorten approval cycles, and deliver operational readiness—not just documentation.

If you are prepared to be accountable for converting regulatory uncertainty into launch-ready sites, this is the opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Coordinating with architects, contractors, and legal counsel to obtain all construction and educational operation permits required for launch.
  • Navigating local permitting and inspection workflows across multiple jurisdictions—reducing cycle times and removing obstacles.
  • Assembling and filing complete approval packages: permits, applications, compliance documents, and inspection records.
  • Tracking project progress and compliance exposure in real time—ensuring full transparency and no unexpected delays.
  • Traveling to project sites (~75% of the time) to engage in-person with municipal officials, inspectors, and service providers to maintain momentum.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Waiting for others to flag problems or complete submissions—you are responsible for end-to-end outcomes.
  • Operating primarily from an office—this role requires field presence and direct stakeholder engagement.
  • Applying a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach—you will build custom solutions for complex or novel jurisdictions.
  • Treating delays as unavoidable—both speed and accuracy are core to execution.
  • Depending on outdated systems or manual processes—you will be expected to automate workflows and continuously improve.

Key responsibilities

Obtain complete legal and operational authorization to launch schools across jurisdictions with greater speed and thoroughness than standard permitting timelines allow.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in the United States and legally authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship.
  • Available and willing to travel approximately 75% of the time to U.S. cities and states.
  • 5+ years leading permitting, construction, or facilities expansion initiatives involving physical infrastructure and regulatory approvals.
  • 5+ years overseeing multiple contractors per project across different jurisdictions.
  • Documented success delivering projects ahead of schedule while maintaining full regulatory compliance.
  • Experience communicating progress and risk to both technical teams and executive leadership.
  • Clear track record of ownership—serving as the sole accountable party for project delivery and issue resolution.
  • AI-fluent mindset—you default to automation and iteration to accelerate execution.
  • Written communication that is precise, actionable, and credible at the leadership level.
  • Strong regulatory instincts—you understand when to escalate, when to seek clarification, and when to challenge assumptions.

Nice to have

  • Experience in construction management, education facility operations, or multi-location retail rollouts.
  • Involvement in building or refining AI-based tools for permitting, compliance, or regulatory acceleration.
  • Direct working relationships with fire marshals, building inspectors, and education regulatory bodies.
