Description

If you've ever entered a space and immediately felt, "This is precisely what it should be," and then wondered how to replicate that experience across 100 locations, this position was designed for you. We're not seeking a conceptual designer. We're seeking the strategic systems architect who can establish a national function that reliably produces premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically sound environments at scale.

At 2 Hour Learning, our approach inverts the traditional school day. Two hours of concentrated academics. The remainder devoted to passion pursuits, physical activity, and experiential learning. That fundamental transformation requires spaces equally deliberate in their design — and we need a leader to drive this initiative. You'll design the frameworks, standards, and teams that guarantee every campus fulfills that commitment. You'll oversee an expanding team of regional design leads and vendor partners, synchronize priorities across departments, and pinpoint the design advancements that elevate experience, perception, and retention.

This is not a detached creative leadership position. You'll be actively engaged, coaching team members, inspecting installations, and refining the operational playbook continuously. You'll construct the infrastructure that scales exceptional environments — and ensure its sustained execution.

What you will be doing

  • Establish and oversee a national Space & Design function, encompassing team architecture, vendor partnerships, and performance management systems
  • Create and advance modular design standards, brand identity guidelines, and supporting documentation to enable consistent deployment across varied campus environments
  • Synchronize design resource allocation with CapEx planning, enrollment trajectories, and operational parameters through evidence-based decision-making
  • Source, test, and implement design innovations that enhance student experience, strengthen parent perception, and increase staff satisfaction
  • Function as a strategic collaborator with cross-functional leadership

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating space designs personally — your responsibility is scaling the teams and systems that execute
  • Pursuing isolated upgrades or aesthetic-only initiatives — every project connects to measurable outcomes and return on investment
  • Functioning as an isolated creative authority — this position is thoroughly integrated with planning, implementation, and performance measurement
  • Leading remotely from headquarters — you'll travel frequently to maintain proximity to field execution and team growth
  • Preserving existing approaches — you'll be charged with continuously advancing and enhancing the function

Key responsibilities

Establish and direct a scalable design function that guarantees every campus provides a premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically aligned environment — with quantifiable impact on experience quality, enrollment numbers, and retention rates.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years managing physical environments across a multi-location organization, with at least 25+ sites
  • Direct experience creating spaces for UHNW clientele or luxury brands, with demonstrated ability to identify premium quality in every element
  • Demonstrated capability building and managing teams, overseeing external vendor relationships, and establishing a national deployment function
  • Track record developing and refining standards-driven design systems for varied site configurations
  • Strategic planning proficiency with cross-departmental teams
  • Refined aesthetic sensibility and judgment, combined with operational and fiscal rigor
  • Based in the U.S., authorized to work without visa sponsorship, and willing to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Experience in rapidly scaling, brand-focused environments such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or networked education
  • Portfolio showcasing both physical design quality and proven ability to scale systems across multiple properties
  • Excellent communication capabilities with experience presenting to executive leadership, boards, or investor audiences
