Description

If you've entered an environment and immediately felt it was designed with purpose, and then wondered how that caliber could be replicated across 100 locations, this position was created for you. We aren't searching for someone to sketch concepts. We're seeking the strategic architect who can establish a national capability that reliably produces premium, branded, and pedagogically coherent spaces at scale.

2 Hour Learning operates on a fundamentally different model. Students spend two hours on rigorous academics, then devote the remainder of the day to passion projects, physical activity, and experiential learning. This unconventional approach requires environments that reflect the same level of intentionality — and we need a leader to drive that vision forward. You will design the frameworks, standards, and teams that guarantee every location fulfills that commitment. You'll oversee an expanding network of regional design leads and vendor partners, synchronize priorities across departments, and pinpoint the design advances that enhance experience, perception, and retention.

This is not a position focused solely on creative vision. You will be actively engaged, coaching team members, inspecting installations, and iterating on the operational framework in real time. You'll construct the infrastructure that scales exceptional environments — and ensure its ongoing effectiveness.

What you will be doing

  • Establish and oversee a national Space & Design function, encompassing team architecture, vendor partnerships, and performance management systems
  • Develop and refine modular design standards, brand identity guidelines, and documentation to enable consistent execution across varied campus types
  • Integrate design investments with capital expenditure strategy, enrollment projections, and operational realities using data-driven planning
  • Discover, test, and expand design innovations that enhance student experience, strengthen parent perception, and elevate staff satisfaction
  • Function as a strategic collaborator with cross-functional leadership

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating individual space designs — your responsibility is to scale the teams and frameworks that execute
  • Pursuing isolated upgrades or showcase projects — every initiative must connect to measurable outcomes and return on investment
  • Functioning as an independent creative authority — this position is tightly integrated with planning, delivery, and performance tracking
  • Managing remotely — you will travel frequently to maintain proximity to on-the-ground execution and team growth
  • Preserving existing processes — you will be tasked with continuously improving and advancing the function

Key responsibilities

Establish and lead a scalable design function that guarantees every campus delivers a premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically reinforcing environment — with quantifiable impact on experience, enrollment, and retention.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years managing physical environments across a multi-location organization, spanning at least 25+ sites
  • Direct experience designing spaces for UHNW clients or luxury brands, with the capacity to identify premium quality in every detail
  • Demonstrated success building and leading teams, managing external partners, and structuring a national deployment function
  • Track record of developing and iterating standards-based design systems for varied site formats
  • Strategic planning capability with cross-functional teams
  • Refined taste and discernment, combined with operational and financial rigor
  • Based in the U.S., authorized to work without visa sponsorship, and willing to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Experience in rapidly scaling, brand-conscious environments such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or networked education
  • Portfolio showcasing both physical design quality and the capability to systematize execution across a portfolio
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to executives, boards, or investors
