Vice President Design and Construction   $400,000 USD/year

Description

If you've stepped into a space and immediately sensed it was exactly right—then wondered how to replicate that precision across 100 locations—this role is designed for you. We're not seeking a creative visionary. We're seeking the strategic operator who can establish a national function that reliably produces premium, brand-consistent, and educationally aligned environments at scale.

At 2 Hour Learning, we've reimagined the school day entirely. Two hours dedicated to rigorous academics. The remainder reserved for passion pursuits, physical activity, and experiential learning. This fundamental shift requires environments that are equally deliberate — and we need a leader to drive that work. You'll design the systems, benchmarks, and teams that guarantee every campus fulfills that vision. You'll oversee a growing roster of regional design leads and external partners, synchronize priorities across departments, and pinpoint the design advancements that influence experience, reputation, and retention.

This is not a purely conceptual position. You'll be in the field, coaching team members, inspecting installations, and refining the operational playbook as you go. You'll construct the infrastructure that scales exceptional environments — and ensure it performs.

What you will be doing

  • Establish and direct a national Space & Design function, encompassing organizational structure, vendor partnerships, and accountability frameworks
  • Create and refine modular design standards, brand identity guidelines, and technical documentation to enable consistent execution across varied campuses
  • Coordinate design investments with capital expenditure strategy, enrollment trajectories, and operational realities using data-driven planning
  • Discover, test, and expand design innovations that enhance student experience, elevate parent perception, and increase staff satisfaction
  • Act as a strategic collaborator with cross-functional leadership

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating designs yourself — your responsibility is to scale the people and frameworks who execute
  • Pursuing isolated upgrades or ego-driven projects — every initiative must connect to tangible outcomes and return on investment
  • Functioning as an independent creative authority — this role is fully integrated with planning, delivery, and performance metrics
  • Leading remotely — you'll travel frequently to remain connected to on-the-ground execution and team growth
  • Preserving existing processes — you'll be charged with continuously improving and advancing the function

Key responsibilities

Establish and oversee a scalable design function that guarantees every campus provides a premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically effective environment — with quantifiable impact on experience, enrollment, and retention.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years managing physical environments across a multi-site organization, encompassing at least 25+ locations
  • Direct experience creating spaces for UHNW clients or luxury brands, with the capacity to identify premium quality in every element
  • Demonstrated capability to build and manage a team, oversee external collaborators, and organize a national deployment function
  • Track record developing and refining standards-driven design systems for varied site configurations
  • Strategic planning proficiency with cross-functional teams
  • Sophisticated taste and discernment, combined with operational rigor and financial accountability
  • Based in the U.S., authorized to work without visa sponsorship, and available to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Experience in rapidly scaling, brand-focused environments such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or networked education
  • Portfolio illustrating both tangible design excellence and the capability to scale systems across multiple properties
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience delivering presentations to executives, boards, or investors
