Description

If you've walked into an environment and immediately recognized, "This is precisely the right experience," and then considered what it would take to replicate that standard across 100 locations, this position has been designed for you. We are not seeking a concept designer. We are seeking the systems architect who can establish a national capability that reliably produces premium, brand-consistent, and pedagogically integrated spaces at scale.

At 2 Hour Learning, we invert the traditional school structure. Two hours of concentrated academics. The remainder of the day dedicated to passion pursuits, movement, and applied learning. This fundamental transformation requires environments that are equally purposeful — and we require a leader to spearhead that effort. You will engineer the systems, benchmarks, and teams that guarantee every campus fulfills that vision. You will oversee an expanding roster of regional design leaders and external partners, coordinate priorities across organizational units, and pinpoint the design advancements that materially influence experience, reputation, and retention.

This is not a detached creative strategy role. You will be present on-site, coaching team members, evaluating installations, and refining operational protocols in real time. You will construct the infrastructure that scales exceptional environments — and ensure its sustained performance.

What you will be doing

  • Establish and direct a national Space & Design function, encompassing organizational structure, vendor ecosystem, and accountability frameworks
  • Articulate and advance modular guidelines, brand expression, and technical documentation to enable uniform deployment across varied campus environments
  • Synchronize design capital with CapEx frameworks, enrollment trajectories, and operational realities through evidence-based planning
  • Source, test, and implement design innovations that enhance student experience, family perception, and employee satisfaction
  • Function as a strategic collaborator to cross-functional leadership

What you will NOT be doing

  • Executing individual designs manually — your mandate is to scale the talent and infrastructure that deliver them
  • Pursuing isolated enhancements or prestige initiatives — every project must connect to tangible outcomes and return on investment
  • Functioning as an independent creative authority — this position is integrally connected to planning, delivery, and measurement
  • Managing remotely — you will travel frequently to maintain proximity to field execution and team growth
  • Preserving existing approaches — you will be accountable for advancing and refining the function continuously

Key responsibilities

Establish and direct a scalable design capability that guarantees every campus produces a premium, brand-coherent, and pedagogically reinforcing environment — with quantifiable influence on experience, enrollment, and retention.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years leading physical environments across a multi-site organization, encompassing at least 25+ locations
  • Direct experience designing environments for UHNW clients or luxury brands, with demonstrated capacity to discern premium quality across all touchpoints
  • Documented success building and directing a team, overseeing external partners, and architecting a national deployment capability
  • Track record developing and refining standards-driven design frameworks for heterogeneous site portfolios
  • Strategic planning competency with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Refined aesthetic sensibility and judgment, combined with operational and fiscal rigor
  • Based in the U.S., authorized to work without visa sponsorship, and available to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Experience in rapidly scaling, brand-critical contexts such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or networked education
  • Portfolio evidencing both physical design mastery and the capacity to scale systems across a distributed portfolio
  • Effective communication capabilities with experience presenting to executive leadership, boards, or investors
