Description

This role does not resemble a traditional VP position. You will not manage a team. No recurring meetings will fill your calendar. You will not create quarterly strategy presentations or maintain steady-state operations.

Your responsibilities will include executing M&A diligence and integration for enterprise software companies, managing P&L objectives for business units, developing AI automations with cutting-edge tools, negotiating contracts with vendors, and delivering presentations to portfolio CEOs, CFOs, and functional leaders. You will handle all of these responsibilities independently and simultaneously across multiple companies.

Trilogy purchases distressed enterprise software companies and executes turnarounds, targeting one acquisition per week. The VP of Operations team consists of 10 professionals managing operations for 50+ portfolio companies. The work encompasses three primary areas: acquisitions (complete process from diligence through integration), serving as de facto COO for business units (managing budgets, P&L, and vendors), and consulting with central functions (Support, SaaS, Engineering) to align their initiatives with business outcomes.

This is a high-stakes, high-visibility position where each day presents different challenges. You will shape decisions among key stakeholders throughout the organization, including portfolio CEOs, functional leaders, and deal-side partners. Success in this role requires building conviction independently, presenting evidence clearly, and driving stakeholders to action without waiting for consensus.

What you will be doing

  • Leading M&A due diligence in collaboration with leading investment banks and financial institutions, structuring VDRs, executing vendor consolidation initiatives, managing international payroll transitions, and controlling closing checklists
  • Managing quarterly P&L budgets for a multi-product business unit, identifying opportunities for margin improvement, and delivering cost reduction proposals to portfolio CEOs, CFOs, and senior Finance leadership
  • Using AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, and the best available solutions) on a daily basis to evaluate vendor spend, automate decision workflows, develop cost models, and generate executive-ready reports without assistance
  • Overseeing the complete vendor lifecycle for 70+ contracts, encompassing negotiation, legal review, procurement, invoice processing, and termination
  • Serving as the single integration point for portfolio operations, coordinating among 6+ central functions (Finance, Legal, Engineering, SaaS, HR, IT) and deal-side partners (banks, legal counsel, target C-Suite)

What you will NOT be doing

  • Leading a team or assigning work to direct reports. You execute the work directly.
  • Creating strategy presentations or theoretical frameworks. Every deliverable ties to a specific dollar amount.
  • Attending status meetings or reporting on KPIs. You own responsibility for the KPIs.
  • Waiting for direction on your next task. You identify problems, develop solutions, and deliver them.
  • Focusing on one task at a time. You will manage 3-5 concurrent workstreams across different companies.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years of operational leadership in business operations
  • Experience making presentations to C-suite executives
  • Experience writing automation in Python and integrate with LLM APIs
  • Experience using Cursor, Windsurf, MCP, or similar tools to ship production-grade automations
  • Remote work capability with at least 6 hours of overlap with the CST time zone
