Principal Software Engineer   $100,000 USD/year

Description

This role is designed for a highly skilled engineer who excels at ownership, strategic impact, and solving sophisticated technical problems. You will deliver the product's most critical features while defining its technical trajectory and ensuring sustainable growth and reliability. The technical choices you make will have a direct effect on the product and the people who use it, granting you the freedom to innovate and the accountability to execute.

The products you will work on are reshaping how students learn:

  • TeachTap: Uses AI to animate historical figures in an engaging, TikTok-style learning format.
  • TeachTales: Captivates learners through personalized, immersive storytelling that enhances understanding.
  • TimeBack: Serves as a learning companion that connects with existing tools and provides proactive student coaching.
  • Athena: Delivers AI-powered videos and assessments to produce tangible academic results.

Your role will be to guide the technical advancement of these products, making them scalable, maintainable, and resilient over time. In close partnership with product teams, you will convert broad requirements into concrete technical strategies and address intricate challenges while upholding rigorous quality benchmarks. The decisions you make will determine the product's trajectory and affect the learning journeys of thousands of students.

We emphasize deliberate planning and thoughtful upfront design. Our AI-driven methodology handles repetitive tasks automatically, allowing you to concentrate on impactful decisions and creative problem-solving. You will enjoy significant autonomy and the opportunity to guide product direction while prioritizing long-term stability and scalability.

If you are prepared to spearhead the technical transformation of our SaaS offerings and harness generative AI to redefine what's possible, we encourage you to apply.

What you will be doing

  • Feature Development: Architecting and delivering new capabilities with an emphasis on scalability, maintainability, and sustained product value.
  • Requirement Engineering: Working closely with product teams to clarify requirements and guiding technical conversations to ensure features align with overarching product objectives.
  • Operations and Maintenance: Overseeing product reliability, optimizing performance, and proactively detecting and addressing potential issues.
  • Technical Design: Driving high-stakes technical decisions that directly influence user experience and product scalability.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Jumping between transient projects or chasing the latest technology fads.
  • Building internal IT infrastructure or working on outsourced assignments with no direct user engagement.
  • Being trapped in unproductive meetings or wrestling with repetitive infrastructure problems.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 1 year of full-stack development experience, working on front and backend features.
  • At least 2 years as the primary technical contributor for a SaaS product, driving strategic technical decisions.
  • At least 4 years of experience working on actual SaaS products, not outsourcing or internal IT projects.
  • Experience in using generative AI in your day-to-day development work.
