Principal Software Engineer   $100,000 USD/year

Description

This position is designed for an accomplished engineer who excels at ownership, strategic thinking, and solving intricate technical problems. You will develop the product's most critical features while guiding its technical trajectory and safeguarding its long-term resilience and expansion. The technical choices you make will have direct consequences for the product and its user base, granting you both the freedom to innovate and the accountability to execute.

The products you'll contribute to are reshaping education:

  • TeachTap: Uses AI to animate historical figures within a TikTok-style learning platform.
  • TeachTales: Captures student attention through personalized, immersive storytelling that enhances understanding.
  • TimeBack: Functions as a learning assistant integrated into existing applications, offering proactive student guidance.
  • Athena: Employs AI-generated videos and assessments to produce quantifiable educational results.

Your mandate will be to advance the technical maturity of our products, guaranteeing they remain scalable, maintainable, and dependable over time. Working in close partnership with product teams, you will convert broad requirements into sound technical architectures and navigate complex obstacles while upholding rigorous quality benchmarks. The choices you make will determine the product's trajectory and affect how thousands of students engage with learning.

We emphasize deliberate planning and design-first thinking. Our AI-centric workflow automates routine work, allowing you to concentrate on decisions and challenges that matter most. You will operate with significant autonomy and possess the authority to shape product strategy and champion long-term stability and growth.

If you are prepared to spearhead the technical advancement of our SaaS offerings and harness generative AI to redefine what's possible, we want to connect with you.

What you will be doing

  • Feature Development: Architecting and delivering new capabilities with emphasis on scalability, maintainability, and sustained product value.
  • Requirement Engineering: Working alongside the product team to clarify requirements and guiding technical conversations to ensure features support product objectives.
  • Operations and Maintenance: Overseeing product stability, optimizing performance, and preemptively detecting and addressing potential issues.
  • Technical Design: Executing high-stakes technical decisions that directly shape user experiences and the product's ability to scale.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Jumping between short-lived initiatives or pursuing the latest trendy technologies without substance.
  • Contributing to internal IT systems or contract projects that lack genuine user engagement.
  • Becoming mired in unproductive meetings or wrestling with monotonous infrastructure tasks.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 1 year of full-stack development experience, working on front and backend features.
  • At least 2 years as the primary technical contributor for a SaaS product, driving strategic technical decisions.
  • At least 4 years of experience working on actual SaaS products, not outsourcing or internal IT projects.
  • Experience in using generative AI in your day-to-day development work.
