Description

We're seeking Technical Team Leads to take ownership of quality and delivery across our application-level products. You'll guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.

Potential products include:

  • Athena: AI-powered videos and assessments producing quantifiable learning gains
  • TeachTap: AI-driven platform that animates historical figures in a TikTok-style educational format
  • TeachTales: Customized, immersive storytelling designed to enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that transforms education into an enjoyable experience

This position combines individual contribution with leadership: you'll spend 50% building sophisticated features yourself and 50% mentoring and supporting your team. Your role includes defining quality expectations, creating technical patterns, conducting instructional code reviews, and fostering engineer development. Team results, not just personal output, fall under your responsibility.

You'll work with a lean team structure, exercise significant ownership, and operate without administrative overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Developing sophisticated features that establish technical direction for the team
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Mentoring engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Organizing technical initiatives and decomposing project requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and verifying team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Building platform-level or infrastructure-focused systems
  • Spending time in excessive meeting schedules
  • Creating architectural designs without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity (conducting code reviews, mentoring developers, defining team standards)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into development processes
  • Confirmed capability to elevate the skills and performance of fellow engineers
