Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and execution across our app-level product portfolio. You will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.

Sample products in your potential scope:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation driving quantifiable learning gains
  • TeachTap: AI-enabled historical figure interactions delivered in a TikTok-inspired format
  • TeachTales: Adaptive storytelling experiences designed to elevate reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based educational platform that makes learning both enjoyable and immersive

This position balances leadership with execution: you will spend 50% of your time directly implementing sophisticated features and 50% mentoring and empowering your engineers. You define quality expectations, create architectural precedent, conduct code reviews with a developmental lens, and accelerate engineer growth. Accountability rests on collective team results, not solely individual contributions.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal process overhead. Technical leadership is your domain; people management belongs elsewhere.

What you will be doing

  • Implementing sophisticated features that establish technical patterns for team adoption
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and targeted feedback
  • Orchestrating technical workstreams and decomposing product requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and driving team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Contributing to platform or infrastructure layers
  • Attending excessive or unnecessary meetings
  • Designing systems without hands-on coding involvement

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
