Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery across our application-level product suite. You will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications serving thousands of students.

Potential products include:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation driving quantifiable learning gains
  • TeachTap: AI-enabled platform bringing historical personalities to life through TikTok-inspired educational content
  • TeachTales: Customized, engaging narrative experiences that enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning platform that makes education interactive and enjoyable

This position combines individual contribution with leadership: you will spend 50% of your time hands-on implementing sophisticated features and 50% mentoring and empowering your team. You define quality expectations, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with an instructional approach, and facilitate engineer development. You own team-level results, not solely your individual output.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal process overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Implementing sophisticated features that establish architectural examples for your team
  • Conducting PR reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and targeted feedback
  • Organizing technical initiatives and decomposing requirements into actionable work
  • Defining quality benchmarks and driving team adherence to standards

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel management (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Building platform-layer infrastructure components
  • Attending continuous rounds of meetings
  • Designing architecture in isolation from actual implementation

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
