Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to ensure excellence in both delivery and quality across our application-level products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that reach thousands of students.

You may contribute to products such as:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and test generation delivering quantifiable academic results
  • TeachTap: An AI-driven platform bringing historical figures to life through a TikTok-inspired learning interface
  • TeachTales: Customized storytelling experiences designed to enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that makes educational content engaging and enjoyable

This is a player-coach position where you will spend 50% of your time building sophisticated features hands-on, and the remaining 50% coaching and empowering your team members. You will define quality expectations, establish coding patterns, conduct code reviews with an instructional approach, and support the professional development of engineers. Your accountability extends to the entire team's results, not solely your individual contributions.

Expect high ownership in a lean team environment with minimal process overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management responsibilities are handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Developing sophisticated features that serve as exemplars for your team
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Mentoring engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Organizing technical efforts and decomposing requirements into actionable tasks
  • Establishing quality benchmarks and ensuring team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Contributing to platform-level infrastructure projects
  • Spending time in prolonged or excessive meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • A minimum of 2 years in a leadership capacity (including code review responsibilities, engineer mentorship, and team practice establishment)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products to production
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into your development process
  • Confirmed ability to elevate the skills and capabilities of fellow engineers
