Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery across our application-layer products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers as they develop educational applications serving thousands of students.

Potential products in your scope:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation designed to deliver quantifiable learning gains
  • TeachTap: An AI-driven platform that resurrects historical figures in a TikTok-inspired educational interface
  • TeachTales: Customized, enchanting narratives engineered to enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based instruction that transforms learning into an engaging, enjoyable activity

This position operates as a player-coach: you will spend 50% of your time constructing sophisticated features and 50% developing and empowering your team. You define the quality threshold, introduce architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with an instructional lens, and cultivate engineer capability. Your accountability extends to collective team results, not solely individual contributions.

Lean structure, substantial ownership, zero red tape. You lead on the technical dimension; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Constructing sophisticated features that serve as exemplars for your team's work
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and targeted feedback
  • Orchestrating technical execution and decomposing product requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and verifying team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel matters (recruiting, termination, performance evaluation, career development discussions)
  • Building platform or infrastructure layers
  • Attending marathon meeting cycles
  • Designing architecture in isolation from implementation

Candidate requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years in full-stack software development
  • A minimum of 2 years serving in a lead capacity (conducting code review, mentoring peers, defining team workflows)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products to production
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into your development process
  • Documented success in elevating the skills and performance of fellow engineers
