Description
We are seeking Lead Software Engineers to oversee delivery and quality across our application-level products. You will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.
Potential product areas include:
- Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation delivering quantifiable learning results
- TeachTap: AI-driven platform bringing historical personalities to life through TikTok-style educational content
- TeachTales: Customized storytelling experiences that enhance reading comprehension
- TrashCat: Game-based learning designed to make education entertaining and interactive
This position combines technical execution with team enablement: roughly 50% direct contribution to sophisticated features and 50% mentorship and team support. You establish standards for quality, define architectural patterns, provide instructional code reviews, and facilitate engineer development. Your accountability extends to collective team results rather than individual output alone.
Expect high autonomy, focused team structure, and minimal administrative overhead. Technical leadership is your domain; people management responsibilities belong elsewhere.
What you will be doing
- Implementing sophisticated features that establish technical direction for the team
- Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
- Developing engineers through pair programming and structured feedback
- Organizing technical initiatives and decomposing product requirements
- Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring consistent team adherence
What you will NOT be doing
- Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
- Contributing to platform or infrastructure layer systems
- Attending excessive meetings
- Designing architecture without hands-on implementation
Candidate requirements
- At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
- At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
- Track record of shipping SaaS products
- Experience with AI tools in development workflow
- Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
