Description

We're seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and execution across our application-layer products. You'll guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers creating educational applications that serve thousands of students.

Potential products include:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation that drives quantifiable learning outcomes
  • TeachTap: AI-driven platform animating historical figures in a TikTok-style educational format
  • TeachTales: Customized, immersive storytelling designed to enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that transforms education into an engaging experience

This is a player-coach position: 50% directly implementing sophisticated features, 50% mentoring and empowering your team. You define quality expectations, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with instructional intent, and accelerate engineer development. You own team results, not solely your individual contributions.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, zero bureaucracy. You provide technical leadership; people management sits elsewhere.

What you will be doing

  • Implementing sophisticated features that establish patterns for the team to follow
  • Conducting PR reviews with comprehensive, instructional feedback
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and targeted feedback
  • Orchestrating technical execution and decomposing requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling people management responsibilities (recruiting, terminations, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Building platform-level infrastructure components
  • Spending time in continuous meeting cycles
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
