Description

We're seeking Platform Architects to build the foundational systems that enable other teams to deliver. Your work will focus on platform-level products where the APIs you design, the architectural patterns you establish, and the documentation you create will define how multiple teams operate.

Platform products you may contribute to:

  • TimeBack: Educational platform that supports Alpha School's 2-hour learning model (99th percentile test results)
  • Incept: Content generation platform that produces personalized educational content for various learning applications
  • Crossover: AI-powered hiring platform that processes tens of thousands of applicants monthly
  • This role emphasizes design: 50% producing specs, API contracts, and technical decisions; 30% building complex platform features; 20% reviewing work and providing guidance. You hold technical authority over architectural choices. Once aligned with the team, your specifications become binding.

What you will be doing

  • Producing specs ahead of implementation
  • Architecting APIs that ensure backward compatibility and extensibility
  • Recording Important Technical Decisions (ITDs) along with reasoning
  • Implementing complex platform features
  • Reviewing PRs to ensure architectural consistency

What you will NOT be doing

  • Extensive team leadership or people management
  • Developing simple app-level products
  • Attending endless meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience
  • At least 2 years architecting systems where other teams consumed your APIs or relied on your architectural decisions
  • Proven history of authoring technical specs or technical decisions that were implemented by others
  • Experience integrating AI tools into development workflow
