Description

We are seeking Platform Architects to craft the foundational systems upon which other teams will build. In this role, you will focus on platform-level products where your architectural patterns, API design choices, and technical documentation directly influence how multiple teams develop their solutions.

Platform products you may contribute to:

  • TimeBack: An educational platform that supports Alpha School's 2-hour learning model (achieving 99th percentile test outcomes)
  • Incept: A content generation platform that produces personalized educational materials for various learning applications
  • Crossover: An AI-powered hiring platform that processes tens of thousands of applicants each month
  • This role emphasizes design: 50% producing specifications, API contracts, and technical decisions; 30% building complex platform capabilities; 20% conducting reviews and providing technical guidance. You hold technical authority on architectural choices. Once aligned with the team, your specifications become binding.

Work with a compact team of capable peers. High ownership, no bureaucratic overhead. You design, build, and own your work.

What you will be doing

  • Producing specifications prior to beginning implementation
  • Crafting APIs with backward compatibility and extensibility in mind
  • Recording Important Technical Decisions (ITDs) along with supporting rationale
  • Implementing complex platform capabilities
  • Conducting PR reviews to ensure architectural consistency

What you will NOT be doing

  • Extensive team leadership or managing people
  • Developing simple application-level products
  • Attending endless meetings
  • Pure architectural work with no implementation

Candidate requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience
  • At least 2 years designing systems where other teams relied on your APIs or architectural decisions
  • Demonstrated history of authoring technical specifications or technical decisions that were implemented by others
  • Experience integrating AI tools into your development workflow
