You're joining a validated learning framework already delivering measurable results at Alpha School. LearnWithAI powers the platform, scaling rapidly throughout the US and internationally. Students complete their core academics in two hours daily and score in the nation's top percentiles. The methodology is proven. What's required now is someone who approaches each day focused on the people within the system.


You'll establish design excellence, create the standards, and develop the function. Your domain covers our learning platform and its associated learning applications, serving diverse audiences both within and outside Alpha.
A five-year-old who hasn't learned to read yet navigates a system teaching counting—one that must make discovery feel effortless. A teenager performing two grades below level is regaining trust after prolonged academic struggle, where a single unclear interaction could reverse progress. A parent gains visibility into their child's actual learning process. That transparency reduces stress and transforms them into an empowered advocate. An academic coach overseeing a multi-age classroom requires visibility into advancement without information overload. Your role demands understanding each group thoroughly enough to make authentically distinct design decisions for each.


Your responsibility is the experience layer: investigate each audience with substantive depth, translate your findings into design principles engineers can implement directly, and deliver code-ready outputs that function immediately—not static mockups awaiting review cycles. You collaborate with product leaders accountable for outcomes and engineers who deploy code. You challenge requests that compromise user experience. You own the complete cycle.


You'll employ AI as a force multiplier to accelerate iteration and expand coverage, but your discernment—not the algorithm's initial output—determines what ships. Primary focus remains our education platform, with periodic work in adjacent domains.

What you will be doing

  • Investigate users spanning radically different audiences and construct design principles reflecting that understanding
  • Develop and sustain design systems embedded within each product's native UI framework, enabling faster engineering delivery and cumulative design value rather than fragmentation
  • Produce functional prototypes allowing product leaders to validate decisions in days rather than weeks
  • Evaluate existing products from user perspective: identify experience breakdowns, engagement friction points, and high-impact improvement opportunities
  • Establish design culture here: structure feedback mechanisms, clarify trade-off evaluation, determine which standards are non-negotiable
  • Collaborate with product leaders and engineers, challenge requests that degrade user experience

What you will NOT be doing

  • Setting product strategy; product leaders own strategy, you ensure experience execution aligns with it
  • Creating static mockups requiring code translation
  • Focusing on a single product; you work across the entire portfolio
  • Executing predefined design briefs; you extract context from ambiguous inputs and begin designing with partial information
  • Waiting for authorization; you possess the mandate to surface and resolve UX issues independently

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in product design or UX roles, with complete ownership spanning research through deployed experience
  • Substantial evidence of user empathy and research rigor across audiences distinctly different from yourself
  • Established design craft in interaction and visual design, with portfolio demonstrating audience-tailored solutions over generic templates, combined with clear design perspective
  • Confirmed AI-native workflow: rapid iteration capability, critical evaluation skills, and willingness to reject initial AI suggestions instead of defaulting to them
  • Capacity to convert designs into code leveraging AI tools and contemporary frameworks
  • Prepared to construct a design function and culture from the ground up, not step into existing infrastructure
