Counselor   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at Alpha School's Brownsville, TX campus
  • $100,000/year W2 compensation, disbursed weekly. Health benefits effective day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one full school year on campus

Your career has been built on coaching children — not instructing them. The distinction is clear to you: coaching means connecting, challenging, and refusing to accept anything less than a student's full potential. Instruction is content transmission. You have never been a content transmission mechanism.

Alpha operates the most unconventional educational model you will encounter. Students do not occupy rows while absorbing lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning applications at individualized speeds. AI manages instructional delivery. Your responsibility is conducting life skills workshops that command attention from K-8 cohorts, facilitating motivation sessions that drive weekly learning target achievement, and maintaining standards when students attempt to disengage. Academic progression is automated. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers meaningful upward trajectory, and that trajectory is measured by depth of student impact. Educators who consistently achieve performance benchmarks (100% cohort attainment of weekly app goals, satisfaction scores at or above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they mentor other educators in methodology refinement. Students remain the central focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX Starbase. If your motivation for career transition is mission-driven — transforming a child's self-perception — rather than credential-building, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students addressing public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify authentic skill acquisition, not passive attendance
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions informed by student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort attainment of weekly app progression goals
  • Employing narrative techniques, incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual rapport to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics with a 90%+ benchmark on student surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering board-based lectures. Academic advancement occurs through self-directed AI-powered applications, not direct instruction from you.
  • Supervising passively. The setting involves students working on computers; the role demands active engagement.
  • Compromising standards in response to student objections. Test2Pass requirements remain fixed, independent of individual circumstances.
  • Developing original curriculum. Workshop frameworks and lesson plans are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the narrative skill and presence that ensures genuine student comprehension.
  • Handling parent communication, admissions processes, or campus administration. Those functions belong to separate roles.

Key responsibilities

Guide a K-8 student cohort to 100% achievement of weekly academic targets while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain 90%+ satisfaction ratings.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years' direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
  • Demonstrated storytelling ability and facilitation presence — capacity to sustain engagement in a room of children for one hour
  • Available to work on-site at Alpha's Brownsville, TX campus
  • Authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader
  • Documented high achievement in competitive contexts (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Familiarity with self-paced or app-based learning environments
