Camp Coordinator   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • Based on-site at Alpha School's Brownsville, TX campus
  • W2 compensation of $100,000 annually, distributed weekly. Full health coverage begins day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one full school year on campus

You've been coaching young people for years — not instructing them in the traditional sense. The distinction matters: coaching means connecting with students, challenging them, and holding them accountable to their potential. Teaching often means delivering information. You've never been an information dispenser.

Alpha operates a school model unlike anything you've encountered. There are no rows of desks with students listening to lectures. Instead, learners progress independently through AI-driven educational apps. The AI delivers academic instruction. Your responsibility is facilitating life skills workshops that captivate K-8 students, conducting motivation sessions that drive learners toward weekly achievement targets, and maintaining high standards when students resist effort. Academic progression is automated. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers meaningful upward mobility tied to student outcomes. Guides who consistently achieve results — 100% cohort attainment of weekly app goals and satisfaction ratings above 90% — advance into Lead Guide positions, where they mentor other educators in refining their practice. Student success remains the focus throughout.

The Brownsville campus sits adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for changing roles centers on mission — reshaping what students believe they're capable of — rather than career optics, we want your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills sessions with K-8 learners on topics including public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify genuine skill acquisition rather than passive attendance
  • Conducting daily motivational sessions informed by student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot data to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app progression goals
  • Employing narrative techniques, incentive structures (campus currency, competitive leaderboards), and individualized relationships to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics to maintain a 90%+ threshold on student feedback surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching via lecture format. Academic advancement occurs through AI-powered self-paced applications, not direct instruction from you.
  • Supervising without engagement. The environment involves technology-based learning; the role demands active interaction.
  • Compromising standards when students object. Test2Pass benchmarks remain fixed, even during challenging weeks for individual learners.
  • Creating original curriculum materials. Workshop frameworks and lesson structures are supplied; your task is delivering them with the storytelling skill and executive presence that ensures genuine student comprehension.
  • Handling parent communications, enrollment processes, or facility management. Those functions belong to separate roles.

Key responsibilities

Guide a K-8 student cohort to achieve 100% completion of weekly academic objectives while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain satisfaction ratings of 90% or higher.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary through middle school) students
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills and storytelling ability — capacity to sustain children's engagement throughout one-hour sessions
  • Available to work on-site at Alpha's Brownsville, TX campus
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, summer camp counselor, or youth programming coordinator
  • Demonstrated excellence in competitive settings (scholastic, athletic, or career-based)
  • Familiarity with self-paced or technology-enabled learning models
