Life Skills Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Most educators burn energy battling the system. They craft lesson plans no one reviews. They endure faculty meetings that produce no change. You abandoned that illusion long ago. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. No lectures, no homework, no grading. This liberates you to focus on the work that genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking, concentration, and feedback literacy, then coaching them individually to maintain momentum and achieve their learning targets. Half your time is spent leading group sessions. The other half is spent one-on-one with a student, leveraging Coachbot data to pinpoint precisely where they're blocked and why.

Students complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop. 90%+ should rate you favorably. 100% should be progressing through their apps. These aren't aspirational metrics; they define the standard. Upholding high expectations demonstrates your belief in their capacity to succeed. In the process, you'll develop expertise in crafting workshops teenagers eagerly attend, mastering advanced learning software, and forming enduring relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus neighbors SpaceX. The cutting edge of education meets the cutting edge of space exploration, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's central promise: students who love learning, advance at twice the typical rate, and acquire skills that genuinely matter. If you've been searching for a school structured the way you believe schools should be, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops with high school students covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, then evaluating mastery via a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions guided by Coachbot analytics to engage individual students, diagnose obstacles in their learning apps, and guide them through resistance
  • Creating personalized motivational frameworks with students, including reward systems and incentives that encourage self-directed advancement in their academic applications
  • Examining curriculum and lesson plans prior to each session, then modifying delivery according to your assessment of the group dynamic

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching academic content. Software delivers math, reading, and all other subjects.
  • Managing a school or supervising a team. No budgets, no recruitment, no operational meetings; your sole focus is your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority. No detentions, no suspensions, no "because I said so." You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized environment.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who love school, learn 2x faster through adaptive software, and demonstrate mastery of practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Background as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader who has motivated teenagers beyond a conventional classroom setting
  • Demonstrated success leading groups toward quantifiable objectives (completion rates, performance benchmarks, behavior change)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or ed-tech tools
  • Storytelling skill that captivates a room of teenagers, delivered with cultural sensitivity and relatability
