Portfolio Finance Director   $400,000 USD/year

Description

You didn't build expertise in Private Equity, Investment Banking, or Big 4 M&A to spend your days managing budgets and rubber-stamping presentation slides.

Your role is to design, challenge, and drive forward — transforming ambiguous strategy into rock-solid execution frameworks, not multi-year projections that gather dust. You've honed financial modeling skills under intense pressure. Now you're ready to apply that capability where it directly influences operating strategy, not just pitch books. This is that opportunity.

Trilogy seeks a finance strategist with operational instincts and dealmaker precision: someone who excels amid uncertainty, takes ownership of results, and uses AI as an integrated thinking partner. You'll collaborate closely with founders and senior leaders to define the trajectory of SaaS and education businesses, creating the financial infrastructure and investment logic that enable intelligent scaling, not wasteful expansion.

If your ideal workweek involves dissecting a weak business case, reconstructing it with phased milestones and performance thresholds, and delivering analysis that prompts immediate executive recalibration, this role is designed for you.

You won't be leading 30-person departments. You won't be enforcing budget compliance. You won't be waiting years to see outcomes. You'll be driving strategy with velocity, discipline, and AI-augmented rigor, and your contributions will redirect the course of ventures that are reshaping industries.

What you will be doing

  • Constructing and maintaining integrated 3-statement financial models with transparent drivers, ERP data feeds, and AI-powered scenario analysis.
  • Delivering complete investment packages — financial models, sensitivity frameworks, and board-quality memoranda — within 72 hours.
  • Stress-testing customer acquisition cost, retention economics, pricing strategy, asset utilization, and similar metrics to expose critical assumptions and generate actionable insight.
  • Transforming weak business plans into structured, milestone-driven execution roadmaps with clear performance indicators.
  • Managing and iterating live financial infrastructure that supports real-time strategic decisions across SaaS and education portfolio companies.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Performing month-end close, managing audits, or dedicating time to compliance activities — this is not a controller or traditional FP&A management position.
  • Supervising large teams or providing ongoing people development — your influence comes from deliverables, not org chart depth.
  • Producing presentations that languish unread — every strategic recommendation must be underpinned by robust models, validated logic, and clear decision criteria.
  • Working at a steady, predictable pace — this environment is deliberately fast-moving, AI-enabled, and structurally ambiguous.
  • Waiting for approval to challenge assumptions — your mandate is to scrutinize strategy and elevate its quality and speed.

Key responsibilities

Design and operate an AI-enabled financial infrastructure that informs high-impact investment choices, sustainable growth trajectories, and operational precision across rapidly scaling SaaS and education ventures.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years in Private Equity, Investment Banking, or Big 4 M&A/Corporate Finance (excluding audit/tax), including hands-on deal modeling, stakeholder engagement, and investment analysis.
  • CPA, ACA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA, or MBA qualification, paired with comprehensive understanding of US GAAP/IFRS and fully integrated financial statements.
  • Hands-on experience working with enterprise ERP platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP).
  • Proven application of AI tools to enhance modeling workflows, scenario development, research tasks, memo creation, and process automation.
  • History of delivering financial models and executive-level strategic recommendations with speed, precision, and clarity.
  • Based in time zones ranging from UTC-8 to UTC+3.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with SaaS or EdTech operating models.
  • Background in designing financial systems architecture, beyond simply building models within existing frameworks.
  • Experience working in fluid, founder-driven settings characterized by shifting priorities and direct feedback cultures.
