Director of AI Product Management   $400,000 USD/year

Description

This position is for a product leader prepared to leverage AI to reshape the mechanics of education. We seek a Director to take ownership of our Education vertical and pursue the goal of enabling students to learn with greater effectiveness. The focus is on creating fundamental transformation rather than iterative enhancement.

The position centers on accountability for strategic outcomes, not process oversight. You will set a clear objective for the Education vertical and have full authority to pursue it. You will personally write the master "Brain Lift" document that encodes our strategy and sets the portfolio roadmap unifying all educational products. Leading a team of capable Product Owners, you will function as a player-coach who stays engaged in the most pivotal work.

Traditional one-size-fits-all educational models do not meet the needs of individual learners. Our strategy is to construct a new framework built on learning science and AI, delivering genuinely individualized instruction. We are demonstrating that education can be both highly personal and profoundly effective.

This role diverges from conventional VP of Product roles. If your preference is to manage processes rather than own outcomes, or if you intend to delegate fundamental strategic responsibilities, this position will not suit you. We need a leader who is rigorously analytical, a clear first-principles thinker, and uncompromising in pursuit of the defined objective.

You will guide a talented team of product owners and collaborate directly with the founders to direct the entire vertical. Success will be measured straightforwardly: verifiable, data-supported evidence that your strategy produced measurable gains in student learning. If you are prepared for accountability and challenge at this level, we should speak.

What you will be doing

  • Architecting Domain Knowledge: Take ownership of the master "Education Domain BrainLift," consolidating insights from your team and the market into one unified strategy that aligns the entire vertical on critical product choices.
  • Steering the Portfolio Roadmap: Convert the Domain BrainLift into an outcome-focused roadmap spanning the complete product portfolio. You will determine the sequence of initiatives that generate compounding value and articulate the strategic rationale guiding your team's work.
  • Player-Coach Leadership: Operate as a player-coach by executing your own OODA loops on high-impact outcomes to establish the standard, while coaching your team through review of their iterations and refinement of their insights to ensure coherent portfolio execution.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Serving as a pure people manager. Your core responsibility is to direct the vertical's strategy and establish the execution standard, not simply administer headcount, budgets, and processes.
  • Implementing a top-down strategy handed down to you. You are expected to personally craft the unified, comprehensive strategy for the vertical, synthesizing insights from the bottom up.
  • Producing static, long-range roadmaps. Your portfolio roadmap is a dynamic document. You will navigate the portfolio with agility, incorporating weekly insights from both your team's iterations and your own.
  • Running a "feature factory." Your success is measured by the strategic outcome achieved for the vertical. This demands genuine integration across products, not merely increasing feature output in isolation.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in a product leadership role where you personally shaped the product vision and owned the core problem-solution hypothesis
  • Previous experience launching at least one successful product (not just a feature or a module) that reached real users (not internal tools) from scratch (not joining partway through the development process) to launch (achieving at least $1 million in revenue)
  • Professional experience using AI in your daily work (e.g., research, analysis, synthesis, strategy)
