Academic Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You've accomplished difficult things. You've operated within genuine standards. You understand the distinction between effort and execution. If you're ready to apply that capability where it reshapes a student's path, this position was designed for you.

Alpha School leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction, enabling students to complete core academic work in roughly two hours per day. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At our most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor who can assess the environment, establish expectations, and guide them through friction, distraction, and uncertainty.

This isn't a conventional teaching position. You won't deliver lectures, assign grades, or develop curriculum. You will coach. You will facilitate demanding life-skills workshops. You will interpret data to identify what's blocking a student's progress, then apply focused pressure with empathy and precision until they execute.

If you hold an elite credential and a proven history of elevating others' performance, we want to hear from you. Apply to help shape a campus environment where students arrive prepared, develop genuine competencies, and surpass challenging objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitate 1:1 and small-group coaching that transforms student intentions into reliable execution and quantifiable outcomes
  • Analyze performance data and student objectives to identify obstacles and design ambitious, personalized accountability frameworks
  • Conduct demanding life-skills workshops grounded in authentic narrative, structured reflection, and practical application, followed by competency evaluation
  • Guide daily opening sessions that establish culture, signal high standards, and prepare students before work begins
  • Build trusted mentor relationships with students and families through unwavering expectations, reliability, and mature judgment

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver traditional classroom instruction, lectures, or subject-matter tutoring
  • Develop curriculum, write lesson plans, or evaluate academic assignments
  • Oversee staff, manage campus operations, or assume administrative leadership responsibilities
  • Compromise standards to secure immediate compliance or superficial progress

Key responsibilities

This role ensures that students at Alpha's most rigorous campuses remain deeply motivated and accomplish continuous growth and life-skill proficiency under elite, high-expectation coaching.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • At least one clear elite marker (athletics, academics, career achievement, or elite coaching)
  • Experience in people-facing mentoring, coaching, or leadership that measurably raised others' performance
  • Comfort operating in high-accountability environments with clear standards and follow-through
  • Ability to lead engaging, high-rigor group sessions and coach individuals with strong judgment
  • Willingness to work full-time (40 hours/week) in person at Alpha's Austin campus
  • Legal right to work in the U.S.

Nice to have

  • Multiple elite markers with clear evidence of raising standards and outcomes
  • Experience using data and analytics to drive coaching plans and accountability
  • Background in selective firms, competitive startups, or elite athletics programs with intense performance expectations
