Academic Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You've accomplished difficult things. You've operated within genuine standards. You understand the gap between "effort" and results. If you're ready to apply that discipline in a role that reshapes a young person's path, this position was designed for you.

Alpha School leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction, enabling students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is devoted to life skills, self-directed projects, and meaningful development. At our most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight—they need a credible mentor capable of reading context, establishing tone, and guiding them past resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

This is not conventional teaching. You won't deliver lectures, assign grades, or develop lesson plans. You will coach. You will facilitate demanding life-skills workshops. You will interpret data to identify what's limiting a student's progress, then intervene with precision and care until they execute.

If you hold an elite credential and a proven history of elevating others' performance, we want to speak with you. Apply to help shape a campus environment where students arrive prepared, develop real competencies, and surpass challenging objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitate 1:1 and small-group coaching that converts student intentions into reliable execution and quantifiable outcomes
  • Leverage analytics and student objectives to identify obstacles and design ambitious, personalized accountability frameworks
  • Lead demanding life-skills workshops grounded in authentic storytelling, guided reflection, and practical application—then evaluate mastery
  • Conduct daily opening sessions that establish culture, uphold high standards, and prepare students before they begin work
  • Build trusted mentor relationships with students and families by maintaining high expectations, consistency, and thoughtful judgment

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver traditional classroom instruction, lectures, or academic tutoring
  • Develop curriculum, write lesson plans, or evaluate student assignments
  • Supervise adult staff, oversee campus operations, or assume administrative leadership responsibilities
  • Compromise standards to secure short-term compliance or superficial progress

Key responsibilities

This role ensures that students at Alpha's most rigorous campuses remain highly motivated and demonstrate continuous growth and life-skill mastery through elite, high-standards coaching.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • At least one documented elite marker (athletics, academics, professional achievement, or elite-level coaching)
  • Proven experience in client-facing mentoring, coaching, or leadership that demonstrably improved others' performance
  • Confidence working in high-accountability settings with explicit standards and disciplined execution
  • Capability to facilitate engaging, high-rigor group sessions and provide individual coaching with sound judgment
  • Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) onsite at Alpha's Austin campus
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Multiple elite markers with documented evidence of elevating standards and results
  • Experience applying data and analytics to shape coaching strategies and accountability systems
  • History in selective organizations, competitive startups, or elite athletics programs with rigorous performance cultures
